What's the job all about?

The Assistant Portfolio Manager serves as a vital contributor within Chandler's Investment Team, taking on increasing responsibility for trading and portfolio management functions. The position requires frequent and effective communication with senior investment team members and the Operations team to ensure seamless execution of trade flows. The Assistant Portfolio Manager is responsible for conducting comprehensive market and credit research, developing sector-level expertise, and actively participating in Chandler's investment committees, playing a meaningful role in the firm's risk management and asset allocation decisions.


The essential functions of the role include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Support trading and portfolio management activities, ensuring portfolios are aligned with clients' stated policy objectives and Chandler's internal risk management parameters.
  • Serve as a key point of contact between the Operations and Portfolio Management teams to manage and coordinate trade flows.
  • Perform comprehensive market and credit research to guide investment decisions, developing proficiency in credit analysis for assigned sectors.
  • Contribute insights and analytical expertise through active participation in investment team and committee meetings, including the Credit Committee.
  • Assist in new business development by conducting thorough analysis of Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and representing the firm at industry conferences and events as needed.

Requirements


This Team Member will have:


Education: A Bachelor's degree in finance, business, economics, or a related field is required.

Industry Experience: A minimum of three years of experience in asset management or a related industry - involving trading or managing fixed income portfolios and performing financial or credit analysis - is required. Knowledge of structured products is highly desirable.

Technical Proficiency: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Bloomberg, and database management is required. Experience with portfolio accounting and reporting systems, including Clearwater, is highly valued. Knowledge of SQL and VBA is preferred. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to apply these tools to portfolio analysis, monitoring, and performance reporting.

Skills & Knowledge: Strong analytical acumen coupled with excellent communication and writing skills is necessary for effective performance in this position. Demonstrated initiative and the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously are essential.

Additional Qualifications: Active progress toward CFA designation or other relevant finance or investment management certifications is preferred. Proven ability to analyze financial statements and investment data. Experience with portfolio analysis and reporting tools. Familiarity with regulatory and compliance standards affecting portfolio management.

Salary Description

$110,000 - $125,000 plus bonus
