Job Summary

MRK is seeking a growth-oriented student to join us as a part-time Portfolio Intern, to provide support to our growing team. Under the direction of the CRO, the selected candidate will assist in providing data and financial analysis across the asset management portfolios to inform strategic decisions. Applicants will gain experience helping MRK preserve and create affordable housing units for low-income families across the country. The ideal candidate has strong communication and financial analysis skills, along with a passion for or interest in real estate. Please see below for additional information about the role. Position is in our LA office, approximately 10 hours per week, with specific days/times scheduled around your current course schedule.


Essential Job Functions

  • Model and instill company mission and values 
  • Conduct research on and evaluate policies, markets, demographics, programs, and strategies as aligned to the portfolio needs.
  • Perform specific data analysis to assist the asset management team with reports or presentations; including but not limited to, underwriting, modeling, and trend analysis.
  • Review and synthesize rent collection data and vacancies to guide leasing direction.
  • Review variance reports to determine patterns within OpEx.
  • Execute special projects in a timely and effective manner, as assigned by leadership.
  • Create and maintain property and market level databases.
  • Manage systems and projects in a timely and orderly fashion.
  • Other duties as assigned by the CRO 

Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Currently enrolled in a four-year university program
  • Must be local to Los Angeles with ability to commute and work in our El Segundo office
  • All majors will be considered but majors in Economics, Accounting or Finance and/or Real Estate background are preferred
  • Coursework experience related to real estate
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite programs, specifically Microsoft Excel
  • Previous job experience working in an office setting preferred, but not required
  • A passionate, can-do attitude with good interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Aptitude and skill for analyzing data and reporting findings
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to multitask and take ownership of projects, completing tasks within committed timeframes 
  • Capable of working both individually and with a team
