Job description

Job Summary

The Cleaning, Commercial, and Groundskeeping Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and performing custodial and grounds maintenance duties to ensure clean, safe, and well maintained interior and exterior facilities. This role coordinates daily work assignments, monitors quality and safety compliance, and ensures all tasks are completed in accordance with established procedures, contractual requirements, and company standards.

Primary Job Functions

Supervisory and Leadership Responsibilities

  • Provide daily direction and oversight to custodial and groundskeeping staff to ensure assignments are completed accurately, efficiently, and on schedule.
  • Conduct routine inspections of assigned areas to ensure cleaning and landscaping standards are consistently met.
  • Train new employees on cleaning procedures, groundskeeping techniques, chemical safety, equipment usage, and company policies.
  • Monitor supply inventory and ensure cleaning and grounds materials are stored securely and available as needed.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for staff regarding daily operations, task priorities, and safety guidelines.
  • Ensure compliance with safety procedures, equipment handling protocols, and all applicable regulations.
  • Address minor issues using established procedures and escalate concerns to management when necessary.

Custodial Responsibilities

  • Provide daily cleaning support to high‑traffic areas of the building as designated by the supervisor.
  • Restock restrooms with toilet paper, paper towels, facial tissues, and soap.
  • Sweep, vacuum, wipe, and mop storage units, hallways, restrooms, elevators, and other assigned areas.
  • Dust furniture, walls, and equipment, including moving and rearranging items as required.
  • Occasional exposure to elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, chemicals, etc.
  • Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors using appropriate cleaning tools and products.
  • Ensure all cleaning supplies and equipment are secured properly at all times.
  • Complete all cleaning tasks in accordance with standardized company processes.
  • Follow established procedures for the safe use of chemical cleaners and power equipment.
  • Attend required staff meetings and in‑service training sessions.
  • Follow established routines and standards in the execution of work assignments.
  • Apply existing procedures to resolve routine issues with limited discretion.

Groundskeeping Responsibilities

  • Cut grass using walking‑type or riding mowers (less than 2000 lbs.).
  • Trim hedges and edge around walkways, flower beds, and wells using hedge trimmers, clippers, and edging tools.
  • Prune shrubs and trees to shape and promote healthy growth using hand tools.
  • Apply fertilizer or insecticide to lawns, shrubs, and trees as directed.
  • Plant grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs.
  • Water lawns and shrubs during dry periods using hoses or sprinkler systems.
  • Collect and properly dispose of leaves, paper, and other debris.
  • Clean comfort stations, offices, workshop areas, and parking lots by sweeping, washing, mopping, and polishing as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What you'll need:

Education:

  • Required: High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered

Experience

  • Required: Minimum of 4+ years of relevant custodial, commercial cleaning or Groundskeeping experience
  • Required: Minimum of 3+ years supervisor experience within commercial cleaning environment

Working Conditions:

  • Occasional exposure to environmental conditions such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, and chemicals

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including stooping, standing, walking, climbing stairs, lifting up to 50 lbs., and moving furniture.
  • Ability to follow structured work routines and established procedures.
  • Effective communication skills for interacting with staff, supervisors, and facility personnel.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and maintain attention to detail.
  • Ability to complete assignments within designated timeframes
  • Dependable, responsible, and capable of working independently or as part of a team.
