Job description

Position Summary: Under general supervision, the Maintenance Assistant/Porter is responsible for assisting with maintenance tasks, minor repairs, housekeeping duties, and supporting day-to-day facility operations. Tobacco-free workplace

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Performs basic repairs and improvements as needed (i.e. painting, changing light bulbs, and basic plumbing) to buildings and furnishings.
  • Assists Facilities Manager with building utility system maintenance and repairs (i.e. electrical wiring and controls, heating and ventilation systems and plumbing systems).
  • Maintains property landscape (i.e. mowing lawns, trimming hedges, removing weeds, disposing of leaves and refuse).
  • Performs cleaning duties to ensure the environment is clean and safe. Duties include: cleaning classrooms, conference rooms, floors, restrooms, hallways and common areas; dusting, washing, pressure washing, and sanitizing other surface spaces in accordance with established procedures and guidelines and schedules.
  • Receives deliveries, unpacks and stores supplies.
  • Operates cleaning equipment (for example pressure washers, brooms, mops, vacuums, etc.) and uses designated chemicals and other cleaning products safely and in accordance with instructions.
  • Collects and disposes of garbage and waste according to the organization's waste removal and recycling policies. Disinfects and cleans garbage and trash cans, and changes bags daily.
  • Refills paper towels, tissue, toilet paper, and hand soap in all dispensers.
  • Performs preventative maintenance and documentation such as changing air filters, monthly fire extinguisher checks, changing smoke detector batteries, etc.
  • Informs the Facilities Manager of any pertinent issues or concerns or inventory shortages.
  • Assists with setting up and breaking down furniture and equipment for meetings or events.
  • Monitors building premises for safety hazards and reports any concerns to Facilities Manager.

Education/Experience:

High school diploma or GED

Certificates and Licenses:

Vocational certificate preferred
