What is port work?

Port work involves the loading, unloading, and handling of cargo at seaports or harbors. Workers in this field, often called dockworkers or stevedores, are responsible for ensuring goods are moved safely between ships and land-based transportation. The job typically includes operating heavy machinery, securing cargo, and adhering to safety regulations. What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in port work, and why are they important?

To thrive in Port Work, you need a solid understanding of cargo handling, safety procedures, and logistics, often supported by relevant certifications such as OSHA safety training or forklift operation licenses. These skills ensure safe, efficient port operations and help prevent accidents or delays in shipping schedules.
