Job description

Description

Duties/Responsibilities:

Monitor plant operations by performing round checks 3 times per shift

Make needed adjustments during round checks to ensure plant operations are within set parameters

Monitor the areas for issues that require maintenance such as flange/clamp leaks, rupture disc tell-tale gauge pressures, etc during rounds and communicate to CDW or rotating chief.

Monitor plant operations using Aspen Process Explorer

Monitor and control operations using Yokogowa DCS system

Operate remote controlled hoist systems to load raw materials to the process each day

Take liquid samples of hazardous chemicals while donning appropriate PPE, including rubber boots, chemical suit, full-faced respirator and chemical protective gloves

Pull caustic samples and perform titrations of the caustic solution

Maintaining a safe work environment by performing the required housekeeping, recognizing hazards and communicating or mitigating those hazards as appropriate

Work rotating shifts, weekends, vacation coverage and holidays as needed


Required Skills/Abilities:ย 

Ability to use hand tools for the purpose of loosening or tightening nuts & bolts on an industrial scale to the point of preventing leaks from flangesย 

Ability to perform light maintenance as needed

Ability to use air impact tools

Ability to use electric corded and cordless tools including saws and drills

Ability to open and close manual valves up to 10" in port size at various heights including below waist height and above shoulder height

Ability to learn and perform repair tasks on equipment including piping and gasket replacements

Ability to use fall protection devices such as fall restraint harnesses

Ability to communicate in loud environments

Ability to be observant, identify abnormal situations (see/hear/smell), and report concerns to supervisors.

Understanding of the basic concepts of detailed work instructions including the cause and effect of actions taken within these instructions

Forklift certification with the ability to move pallets and containers up to 4000 lbs.

Yard Dog/spotter truck certification for moving trailers and ISO containers in the plant

Manlift certification

Basic math such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentage, and average calculations

Ability to apply the math skills listed above to calculate potential tank levels after transfers

Basic skills using Microsoft Word and Excel

Accumulate information pertaining to plant operations and accurately convey or communicate that information to the next shift personnel

Ability to use a fire extinguisher properly

Requirements

Education and Experience:

High School Diploma or equivalent required; further education and certifications such as Chemical Operator, ISO 9001 and/or 14001 are preferred.


Physical Requirements:ย 

Frequent lifting, pushing and pulling of up to 50 lbs.

Ability to ascend/descend ladders and work up to 160 feet in the air while wearing PPE

Ability to ascend/descend multiple (up to 20) ladders to tops of tanks during a 12-hour shift

Ability to ascend/descend up to 4 sets of stairs consecutively multiple times during a 12-hour shift

Ability to ascend/descend up to 4 sets of stairs while carrying up to 40 pounds

Ability to accurately swing a sledgehammer up to 12 lbs.

Wear Personal Protective Equipment in order to work around liquid chemicals, acid fumes, silicon dust and hot equipment including but not limited to:

o Full face respirator

o Dusk mask

o Tyvex suit

o Nomex suit + hood

o Chemical suit + boots

o Hearing protection

Ability to stoop and bend to floor level and squat to access and operate valves, pumps, perform maintenance, etc.

Ability to work in inclement weather
