Job description

Dowdy Ferry Transportation is seeking a highly organized and motivated Intermodal Dispatcher to join our growing Dallas operations team. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced logistics environment, communicates well under pressure, and understands the importance of customer service and driver management in the intermodal trucking industry.

Our office is located near the South Dallas / North Hutchins border.

Responsibilities

  • Manage daily dispatch operations for intermodal drivers
  • Heavy email communication with customers, drivers, steamship lines, rail providers, and internal staff
  • Maintain constant driver correspondence throughout the day regarding load status, scheduling, delays, routing, and operational updates
  • Route planning and load optimization to maximize efficiency and service levels
  • Monitor and manage load activity within the TMS (Transportation Management System)
  • Track container availability, ingates, outgates, appointments, and rail/port deadlines
  • Provide exceptional customer service through proactive communication and issue resolution
  • Coordinate with dispatch, billing, safety, and operations teams to ensure smooth workflow
  • Handle problem-solving in real time, including scheduling conflicts, equipment issues, driver delays, and customer requests
  • Update load notes, milestones, and statuses accurately and consistently
  • Assist with load planning, capacity management, and daily operational reporting
  • Ensure compliance with company procedures, customer requirements, and operational standards

Qualifications

  • Prior trucking or logistics experience preferred
  • Intermodal dispatch experience is a major plus
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to multitask in a high-volume environment
  • Comfortable with heavy email and phone communication
  • Experience using a TMS system preferred
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and sense of urgency
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and general computer systems
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a team environment
