Position Summary

The Pool Server is responsible for providing exceptional food and beverage service to guests and members throughout the pool areas of The Standard Spa, Miami Beach.

This position creates memorable poolside experiences by warmly engaging guests, accurately taking and delivering orders, providing knowledgeable menu recommendations, processing payments, and anticipating guest needs throughout their visit.

Working closely with Pool Runners, Bartenders, Pool Attendants, Culinary, and Food & Beverage Management, the Pool Server helps maintain an efficient, welcoming, and elevated poolside experience while embodying The Standard’s service culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Welcome and engage guests with warm, genuine, and personalized hospitality.
  • Establish rapport with hotel guests, members, and local patrons.
  • Anticipate guest needs and provide attentive service throughout their pool experience.
  • Maintain awareness of assigned guests and regularly check in throughout service.
  • Provide recommendations based on guest preferences.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to guest requests or concerns.
  • Communicate service recovery opportunities to Management when appropriate.
  • Recognize returning guests and help create experiences that encourage them to return.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of food menus, cocktails, Standard Signature drinks, wines, beers, spirits, and daily specials.
  • Review menu changes, specials, and 86’d items before each shift.
  • Clearly describe menu items, ingredients, beverages, and wine selections based on established training.  
  • Make thoughtful food and beverage recommendations.
  • Accurately take guest orders and ensure all modifications and special requests are properly communicated.
  • Enter orders accurately and efficiently into the POS system.
  • Serve food and beverages according to established service standards.
  • Properly open and serve wine and bottled beverages.
  • Coordinate with Pool Runners, Bartenders, and Culinary to maintain proper timing and service flow.
  • Monitor guest satisfaction throughout the experience.
  • Process all forms of payment accurately.
  • Maintain proper cash-handling and POS procedures.
  • Review guest checks for accuracy prior to presentation.
  • Close checks and complete required financial procedures according to established standards.
  • Immediately communicate discrepancies or payment concerns to Management.
  • Properly set assigned wait stations before service according to established SOPs.
  • Complete all opening, closing, and assigned side work.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and fully stocked service stations.
  • Maintain guest tables and poolside dining areas throughout service.
  • Ensure service equipment, menus, condiments, and supplies remain clean and presentable.
  • Ensure closing side work is completed thoroughly before leaving the shift.
  • Support teammates with table maintenance and service needs during high-volume periods.
  • Work closely with Pool Runners, Bartenders, Pool Attendants, Hosts, Culinary, and Management.
  • Communicate food timing, special requests, allergies, guest concerns, and operational needs clearly.
  • Support teammates during busy periods to maintain seamless service.
  • Participate in pre-shift meetings and remain informed about hotel programming, specials, events, and operational updates.
  • Maintain a positive, professional, and collaborative attitude throughout the shift.
  • Consistently follow The Standard’s service standards, SOPs, and expectations.
  • Maintain professional grooming, uniform, and personal hygiene standards.
  • Follow all food safety, sanitation, and responsible alcohol service requirements.
  • Maintain cleanliness of assigned work areas throughout the shift.
  • Identify and immediately report potential safety concerns or operational issues to Management.
  • Follow established procedures regarding intoxicated, disruptive, or inappropriate guest behavior.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Previous serving experience in a restaurant, hotel, resort, pool, beach club, or high-volume hospitality environment preferred.
  • Strong food, cocktail, wine, and beverage knowledge.
  • Knowledge of drink recipes and Standard Signature cocktails preferred.
  • Working knowledge of POS systems and cashiering procedures.
  • Excellent guest service and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally.
  • Strong organizational, multitasking, and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to maintain a sense of urgency while providing warm and attentive service.
  • Ability to remain composed in a busy, high-volume environment.
  • Fluent in English; additional languages are a plus.
  • Required food handling and responsible alcohol service certifications must be maintained in accordance with applicable requirements.
  • Flexible availability, including weekends, holidays, and peak business periods.

Work Environment

This position works primarily outdoors throughout the pool and surrounding Food & Beverage areas.

Team members should be comfortable working in Miami’s outdoor environment, including periods of heat, humidity, direct sunlight, wind, and changing weather conditions. The role operates in a fast-paced hospitality environment and requires continuous movement throughout the pool deck.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk continuously for extended periods, including shifts of 8 hours or more.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Frequent walking, bending, reaching, and carrying throughout the shift.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to safely carry food, beverages, trays, glassware, and service equipment.
  • Ability to navigate busy pool decks and service areas safely and efficiently.
