A pool manager oversees the operations of the swimming pool and other aquatic facilities at a public recreation center or private club. As a pool manager, your job duties include managing the staff schedule, hiring and training new staff, supervising lifeguards during busy hours, and enforcing facility safety rules and policies with patrons. Before the center opens, you walk through the whole facility, inspecting equipment and water slides for potential damage and safety issues, and request repairs and maintenance when necessary. You also document the number of visitors that come to the facility daily and make recommendations on how to improve the recreation center's procedures.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a pool manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Pool Manager, you need strong leadership abilities, knowledge of pool safety regulations, and experience in facility maintenance, often supported by certifications like lifeguard training and CPO (Certified Pool Operator). Familiarity with scheduling software and water quality testing equipment is typically required. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and customer service skills help manage staff and resolve issues with patrons. These skills ensure the safe, efficient, and enjoyable operation of the pool facility for all users.

What are some common challenges a pool manager faces during peak season, and how can they be addressed?

During peak season, Pool Managers often encounter challenges such as managing high guest volumes, ensuring staff coverage, and maintaining safety standards. Effective delegation, clear communication with lifeguards and maintenance staff, and proactive scheduling can help address these challenges. Regular staff training and contingency planning for emergencies are also key strategies for success.

  • Use accounting software and data analytics tools to generate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Oversee AP/AR processes, leveraging automation tools to ensure quick and accurate processing.
  • Reconcile bank statements, general ledger accounts, sales tax filings, and other records.
  • Assist in preparing budgets and providing real-time variance analysis to help the company stay on track with financial goals.
  • Keep financial records in tip-top shape, always up-to-date and aligned with company policies.
  • Work closely with tax teams and auditors to ensure smooth filing and reporting.
  • Provide valuable insights through financial analysis to drive decisions at the senior management level.
  • Track and report on project costs for commercial renovation projects
  • Assist in cash flow management, helping optimize financial health through data-driven metrics.
  • Be part of continuous improvement initiatives that use technology to make accounting processes faster and smarter.

What We’re Looking For:

  • A degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in accounting or finance, ideally with exposure to tech-driven financial operations.
  • Familiarity with accounting software QuickBooks — bonus points if you’ve worked with any industry-specific tools.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Excel, and any experience with data analysis tools or automation software is a plus.
  • Solid understanding of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
  • Inclination to dive into new systems, integrations, and any other game-changing innovations: we utilize a mobile workforce application that directly integrates with accounting software, and understanding these connections is essential.
  • Detail-oriented, able to juggle multiple priorities in a fast-moving environment.
  • Comfortable working independently, but also a great team player who embraces collaboration.
  • Excellent communication skills to interact with internal teams and external stakeholders.
