POSITION SUMMARY:

The Wastewater Plant Technician II, will ensure proper operation and maintenance of the wastewater treatment processes, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and standards. This role plays a critical part in supporting the company’s mission of saving water and protecting the environment. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in operating and maintaining our wastewater treatment processes, collaborating with colleagues to ensure efficient and environmentally responsible practices. This position offers a valuable opportunity to contribute to sustainability efforts while building a career in environmental services and wastewater management.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Manage, optimize, and control the wastewater treatment processes, including screening, sedimentation, filtration, controlling pH and polymer dosing and disinfection.
  • Manage and optimize the utilization of polymer, caustic, and other chemicals/acids.
  • Analyze data from monitoring systems to optimize plant performance and efficiency.
  • Collect and analyze water samples to monitor treatment efficiency and regulatory compliance.
  • Ensure all equipment is maintained as required by the WRM Preventive Maintenance Program and SOPs.
  • Perform routine maintenance, repairs, and cleaning of treatment equipment, controls, pumps, and tanks.
  • Record operational data, maintain logs, and prepare accurate reports as required.
  • Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot, and if necessary, assist to repair equipment and process issues.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment, adhering to all safety protocols and procedures.
  • Participate in training programs to enhance skills and knowledge in wastewater treatment operations.
  • Manage, monitor and operate pumps, valves, DAF, screeners, cake disposal and other equipment to control the flow and treatment of wastewater in accordance with the WRM SOPs.
  • Manage chemical feed rates and other controls to ensure proper treatment processes. Operates daily production.
  • Perform routine sampling and testing of water and wastewater to monitor quality and compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Respond to emergencies, such as equipment failures, power outages, or chemical spills, to minimize environmental impact and ensure continued operation.
  • Coordinate the Drivers and unload the tankers efficiently.
  • Work with other technicians, drivers, and supervisors to optimize plant operations.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and report any issues or abnormalities.
  • Train new employees and share knowledge with team members.
  • Other duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

N/A

CERTIFICATIONS:

  • WRM training or equivalent safety training.
  • Class C Wastewater Licence (Preferred)
  • Class D Wastewater Licence (Required) 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree in environmental science, biology, chemistry, or a related field preferred and a minimum of 5-7 years of experience in wastewater treatment.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems relevant to wastewater treatment.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and proactive approach to learning.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

  • This position may require occasional overtime or shift work, including weekends and holidays.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Frequent standing, walking, and climbing stairs and ladders.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and adverse weather conditions.

  • Work in confined spaces, including tanks and treatment areas.
