Stratasys Direct Manufacturing is seeking an Estimation Engineer II to evaluate Requests for Quotation (RFQs) and deliver accurate, comprehensive quotes aligned with customer requirements. This role provides technical and Design for Additive Manufacturing (DFAM) guidance, defines program timelines, and ensures all costs and capabilities are clearly communicated. You'll collaborate closely with Sales, Fulfillment, and Operations to support high-quality, on-time project delivery.
This position handles higher volume and more complex quotes, working independently on standard requests while taking greater ownership in cross-functional and client interactions.
What you will be doing
• Prepare accurate, comprehensive quotes by reviewing 3D CAD models and 2D drawings, evaluating geometry, tolerances, and customer requirements to ensure manufacturability
• Use cost estimation tools and databases to calculate material, labor, and overhead costs in support of standard and more complex quoting activities
• Apply experience with additive manufacturing and/or traditional manufacturing methods to recommend appropriate production processes, materials, and design improvements
• Review and verify computer-aided design (CAD) data using various CAD software such as Solidworks, Materialise Magics, Autodesk Inventor.
• Review customer specifications and documentation, identify conflicts or gaps, and support negotiation and resolution as needed
• Provide Design for Additive Manufacturing (DFAM) and manufacturing guidance, identifying potential issues and recommending solutions early in the quoting process
• Communicate clearly and professionally with customers and internal teams, conveying technical requirements, cost drivers, timelines, and tradeoffs with a strong customer service mindset
• Assess feasibility, risks, costs, and schedules by collaborating with Operations, Fulfillment, Sales, and technical subject matter experts to ensure alignment with customer expectations and SDM capabilities
• Participate in conference calls/meetings with customers to convey or clarify technical requirements, and learn to communicate project requirements, cost estimates, and timelines to customers clearly and concisely
• Collaborate with Operations and the Fulfillment team to ensure a sufficient understanding of customer acceptance criteria and appropriate margins are covered
• Maintain accurate documentation of quotes, proposals, and customer communications
• Work with subject matter experts (SMEs) to increase understanding of manufacturing, quality, and engineering processes
• Support procurement and supply chain teams in sourcing materials and services for additive manufacturing projects
• Assist in liaising with project managers and production teams to ensure alignment on
• Provide backup for Planning and Project Management functions as required
• Contribute to Fulfillment team continuous process improvement (CPI) efforts to improve efficiency, better align processes to support both customers and Operations, and standardize communication of customer requirements
• Stay informed about industry trends and developments in additive manufacturing, actively seeking opportunities to expand knowledge and skills in estimation practices
• Participate in post-project reviews and contribute insights for process enhancement and continuous improvement, especially to estimation processes, tools, and methodologies
• Follow all company safety policies and procedures
• Demonstrate commitments to Stratasys Behaviors by leading, acting, and modeling these values

Must have for this role:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, project management or another related field
  • Minimum of four years of experience in estimation engineering, or four years of experience in project management or operations within an additive environment, with at least one year specifically focused on estimation engineering
  • Demonstrated history of showing initiative in process improvement, seeking out learning opportunities and critical thinking skills
  • Demonstrate ability to work in a cross-functional team environment and clearly communicate technical requirements and status of assigned projects. Written and verbal communication is clear and concise
  • Understanding of various manufacturing process specs, standards and other technical documents
  • Ability to understand geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), identify errors to make redlines, and/or provide recommendations to customer
  • Understanding of SolidWorks and/or other CAD programs
  • Must have experience with Microsoft Office products (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, and Teams)
  • Must be self-motivated and be able to work effectively on projects with minimal direct supervision

Nice to have:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field
  • Experience with project leadership and project management skills
  • CAD design experience
  • Prior experience with various manufacturing methods such as CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, injection molding, vacuum forming, etc.

As a part of Stratasys, this position requires access to information and/or technology controlled under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) or the Export Administration Regulations (EAR). For this position, the typical annual starting base salary is from $75,000 to $83,444 which does not include variable incentive pay. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position. Your individual base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, geographical location, and/or experiences.
