Job description

Research Scientist

The Audu lab focuses on uncovering and targeting epigenetic enzymes essential to regulating diseases of the vasculature such as atherosclerosis, aneurysmal development, intimal hyperplasia, and arterial calcification. We study innate immune cell cross‑talk, epigenetic regulation of disease, extracellular protein production, and medicinal chemical synthesis in a high‑throughput experimentation setting, intersecting immunology, biophysics, medicinal chemistry and vascular surgery.

Responsibilities
  1. Apply independent judgment to assess the validity of data collected and to interpret results.
  2. Devise, refine, and implement new techniques or modify existing processes using advanced knowledge.
  3. Direct the daily operations of the lab, including hiring and training subordinates.
  4. Prepare, operate, and maintain laboratory and experimental testing equipment.
  5. Co‑author research papers and publications.
  6. Represent the university by presenting research findings to peers at conferences and conventions.
Problem Solving

Incumbents independently review, analyze and interpret data results and assist the principal investigator in presenting information to peers and publishing in suitable journals. They address unusual or sensitive situations and bring them to resolution, consulting the principal investigator if necessary.

Minimum Qualifications

EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor’s degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).

Research Scientist, I: Requires a bachelor’s (or equivalency) + 2 years of directly related work experience or a master’s (or equivalency) degree.

Research Scientist, II: Requires a bachelor’s (or equivalency) + 4 years or a master’s (or equivalency) + 2 years of directly related work experience.
