Fully Remote Teacher/Coach of Competitive Debate for K12 students.

Introduction

Our team is currently seeking two passionate and engaging teachers to host competitive online debates for learners aged 10-17. This is a long term collaboration with automatic quarterly promotions. We want team members excited to grow our practice and benefit from that growth.

Requirements

  • Candidates must be legal residents of the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand or the U.K.
  • Prior experience coaching and/or competing in Public Forum, LD, Collegiate Mock Trial (AMTA), World's, Parliamentary or Policy debate, with success at the tournament level. This is absolutely essential for all candidates. Current university students are very welcome to apply. 
  • An expansive knowledge of current events, economics, history, political science and philosophy.
  • Positivity and a passion for teaching are absolutely critical; these qualities osmosis into the entire classroom dynamic and are essential for setting the tone for each class. Each class is run as a game - you need to keep the energy up while injecting coaching, encouragement and flow. 

Responsibilities

  • Host and judge PF, Policy and Parli debates for learners across different ability levels in a digital classroom
  • This is not a passive tutoring role. Coaches are expected to actively interrupt, redirect, question, and improve student arguments throughout class.
  • Select, research and post resolutions and team assignments prior to each class.
  • Rapidly respond to questions from learners during class
  • Providing ongoing coaching and encouragement during each class to ensure that learners remain constantly challenged but never discouraged.
  • Proficiency in Zoom, with appropriate technical equipment (e.g. possess a quality camera and microphone).


Expected hours:

4-10 hours per week. 

Schedule:

Primarily weekends and US afterschool times (1pm PST- 6pm PST) during the school year. Really any time of the day during the Summer. Alternatively, candidates located in Australia, New Zealand or the U.K will have the option to teach during afterschool times and weekend mornings on Beijing/Singapore time.


Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $26.00 - $34.00 USD per hour
