How much do political data analytics jobs pay per year?

As of Aug 12, 2026, the average yearly pay for political data analytics in the United States is $165,018.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $133,500.00 and $170,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a political data analyst?

To excel as a Political Data Analyst, you need strong quantitative analysis skills, experience with statistical methods, and a relevant degree such as in political science, statistics, or data science. Familiarity with data analysis tools like R, Python, SQL, and data visualization platforms, as well as knowledge of polling methodologies and electoral systems, is typically required. Exceptional critical thinking, communication, and attention to detail are crucial soft skills for interpreting data and presenting findings to stakeholders. These abilities are vital for making data-driven decisions that influence political strategy and campaign effectiveness.

What is political data analytics?

Political data analytics is the process of collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data related to politics, such as voter demographics, election results, public opinion, and campaign performance. Professionals in this field use statistical techniques, data mining, and predictive modeling to help political campaigns, parties, and organizations make informed decisions. The insights gained can guide campaign strategies, optimize outreach, and improve voter engagement. Political data analytics is essential for understanding trends, forecasting outcomes, and targeting communication effectively in modern politics.

How does a political data analyst typically collaborate with campaign teams and other stakeholders during an election cycle?

Political Data Analysts work closely with campaign managers, field organizers, and communication teams to provide actionable insights derived from voter data, polling, and demographic research. They regularly present findings through reports and data visualizations, helping guide strategic decisions such as voter outreach targeting and message optimization. Effective collaboration often requires translating complex statistical analyses into clear recommendations tailored for non-technical audiences. During peak campaign periods, analysts may also coordinate with external vendors and technology providers to ensure data accuracy and timely delivery of insights.

Junior Data Analyst -- Legis1

Sunwater Capital

North Bethesda, MD

$65K - $78K/yr

Full-time

Job description

About Legis1

Legis1 is a congressional intelligence platform that goes beyond tracking legislation to reveal who's actually driving it. By combining over 45 years of congressional and lobbying data, we connect bills, lawmakers, staff, lobbyists, and funders into a single networked intelligence system. Spun out of the nonpartisan Sunwater Institute in 2025, Legis1 is built for professionals who need to understand how policy and influence really move through Washington.

In Q3 2026, Legis1 Inc. launched AllCiv, a civic engagement, political data, and citizen-facing media platform that brings this same intelligence to the public through civic technology, transparency tools, and AI-assisted engagement.

POSITION

We're looking for a Junior Data Analyst to join our Data team and support Legis1, our legislative intelligence platform. This role sits at the intersection of politics and data, you'll work closely with the day-to-day integrity of the political data that powers Legis1, while using SQL and modern AI-assisted tools to generate insights for stakeholders across the company.

This is an ideal position for someone who has a genuine passion for politics, government, and how Congress works, and who wants to apply that knowledge in a data-driven role. We are specifically looking for candidates with a political background and hands-on exposure to political data, not generalist data analysts.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collect, maintain, and monitor Legis1 data to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Use SQL and AI-assisted tools (e.g., Claude Code) to query databases and generate reports that support internal stakeholders across product, data, sales, and marketing teams
  • Research new potential data sources and develop a solid understanding of the underlying legislative/political subject matter
  • Build data ingestion pipelines and scrapers
  • Own day-to-day quality control of the data on Legis1
  • Identify, investigate, and resolve data quality-related bugs
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to translate data findings into actionable insights

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • A deep understanding of U.S. politics and how Congress operates (legislative process, committees, bill tracking, etc.)
  • Hands-on experience working with political data - whether through academic coursework, internships, research projects, campaigns, or prior work experience
  • A basic understanding of SQL, with the ability to write and troubleshoot queries
  • Exposure to or interest in using LLM tools (such as Claude Code or Codex) to assist with data analysis and reporting
  • Strong attention to detail and a quality-first mindset when it comes to data accuracy
  • Curiosity and initiative to research and evaluate new data sources independently
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to work with both technical and non-technical stakeholders

PREFERRED EXPEREINCE

  • Prior experience with legislative tracking tools or government data platforms
  • Prior experience with voter file data or software
  • Familiarity with data visualization or reporting tools
  • Experience working in a fast-paced startup or SaaS environment

Benefits: Paid comprehensive health insurance (including dental and vision), 401(k) with company matching, and generous paid time off.
