We are seeking Language Interpreters for various languages: SPANISH, POLISH, MANDARIN for full, part time and FLEX positions.
SUMMARY:
The Language Interpreter is responsible for converting physicians' advice and diagnoses, written patient information, pharmacological instructions, and hospitals' information and protocols into a second language. The position entails the communication between hospital staff, families, and patients by listening to professionals and translating verbatim patients' responses back to the professionals, using proper medical terminology. Functions may involve translating information such as the reason for medical visit, translation during family sessions, providing drug information, past medical history and family medical history, and scheduling follow-up appointments.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The Essential Job Functions are defined as the fundamental job-related duties that are necessary to the position. An employee is deemed qualified for this position if he or she can perform the following duties with or without accommodations:
  • Conduct general and medical interpretation to staff, patients, and their families
  • Note down and monitor interpretation activities according to hospital standards
  • May be asked to translate written documents
  • Always give reports to a Manager or Supervisor
  • Observe obtain, and receive information from all relevant sources
  • Audit, Compile, Calculate, Code, Tabulate, Enter, or verify information or data
  • Ensure patient confidentiality
  • Perform all crisis intervention techniques (verbal and physical) and respond to code situations
  • Assist patient with Activities of Daily Living (ADL's) when necessary
  • Provide 1:1 patient observation, conduct rounds and facilitate patient groups as necessary

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Education: High school diploma required ; a degree or completion of medical assistant program may be beneficial; Bachelor's Degree in Psychology or related field is preferred.
Experience: Acute in-patient experience working with children, adolescents and/or adults strongly preferred.
Licensure/Certification: Certification through an Agency or National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters (CMI) preferred.
Knowledge/Skills: Must be fluent in two languages (Spanish/English, Polish/English, Mandarin/English). Possess knowledge of general and psychiatric group processes, therapeutic relationships and processes, age specific growth and development, crisis and behavioral management. Must be self-motivated, results-orientated individual who is customer focused with a positive attitude. Must be able to work with clients that have poor social skills, suffer from substance abuse and a variety of mental illnesses.
