Job Overview:
Pay Range: $39.63hr - $44.63hr
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, or other technical discipline or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Typically possesses three to five years experience writing manuals or procedures.
- Responsible for writing, cataloging, publishing and maintaining operations policy and procedures.
- May review publications and recommend revisions or changes in approaches, scope, format, and standards for publication.
- Responsible for consulting with subject matter experts and content providers to ensure common understanding of policies and procedures.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities/Workload:
Core Responsibilities:
- Work Method Documentation Development
Design, draft, and maintain:
- Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Job Aids
- Performance Support Notebooks
- Manual updates (e.g., Rubber Glove, Grounding, Rigging, Transmission Manuals)
Ensure documentation is:
- Field-ready, practical, and usable by craft personnel
- Aligned with current standards, policies, and safety requirements
- Structured per approved WMI governance and SOP procedures
SME Engagement & Working Sessions:
- Schedule and facilitate working sessions with SMEs, reviewers, and advisors.
- Elicit technical input, operational insights, and field practices.
- Capture consensus decisions and translate them into clear documentation.
Research, Analysis & Technical Accuracy:
- Research and consolidate policies, materials, presentations, vendor information, and SME input.
- Validate accuracy and completeness of deliverables prior to approval.
Collaboration & Project Support:
- Partner with WMI Advisors, Project Leads, stakeholders, and SMEs.
- Provide status updates and support project timelines.
- Follow governance, review, and approval workflows defined in WMI procedures.
Field Engagement & Media Support:
- Perform on-site visits and job walks as needed.
- Conduct basic image editing to support documentation.
- Work with media vendors to write scripts and guide development.
Maintenance & Continuous Improvement:
- Maintain existing documentation in response to:
- Standards changes
- Corrective actions
- Safety workstreams
- New tools, equipment, or processes
Required Skills/Attributes:
- Experience Level (Practical Reality):
- This role is not entry-level in practice.
Typical requirement:
- 5–8+ years of technical writing experience, or
- 3–5+ years of technical writing experience plus strong utility/industrial/field-operations exposure
- This expectation is driven by high safety and compliance impact, direct interaction with experienced craft SMEs, and MOC-driven timelines with audit scrutiny.
Required Skills & Background:
- Proven experience producing technical or procedural documentation.
- Ability to translate complex technical input into plain, field-usable language.
- Strong facilitation skills for SME working sessions.
- Strong organizational, writing, and version-control discipline.
- Comfort collaborating across organizational units.
- Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, photo editing software, SharePoint, OneDrive, Acrobat, Outlook, Teams, and Copilot.
Desired Skills/Attributes:
- Experience in utilities, energy, construction, manufacturing, or industrial environments (strongly preferred).
