Pole Loading Software Review information

What is pole loading software review?

A pole loading software review is the process of evaluating specialized software tools used to calculate the structural integrity and load-bearing capacity of utility poles. These reviews help utilities, engineers, and telecom companies select the right software for designing, analyzing, and managing overhead infrastructure. The review typically assesses features such as compliance with industry standards, ease of use, reporting capabilities, and integration with GIS or other systems. By thoroughly reviewing pole loading software, organizations can ensure safe and efficient pole installations that meet regulatory requirements.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a pole loading software reviewer?

To thrive as a Pole Loading Software Reviewer, you need a solid understanding of structural engineering principles, utility pole design, and relevant industry standards, often backed by an engineering degree or related experience. Familiarity with specialized pole loading analysis software (such as O-Calc Pro, SPIDAcalc, or PoleForeman) and knowledge of NESC or GO95 codes is typically required. Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and effective communication are valuable soft skills for evaluating software accuracy and conveying findings. Mastery of these skills ensures reliable assessments, regulatory compliance, and informed recommendations to support safe and efficient utility infrastructure.

What are some typical challenges faced when reviewing pole loading software, and how can they be addressed?

One common challenge in reviewing pole loading software is ensuring that the platform accurately models real-world conditions and complies with relevant engineering standards. Reviewers often need to validate that calculations for structural loads, clearances, and environmental factors are both comprehensive and user-friendly. Collaborating closely with engineering teams and field technicians can help in identifying gaps or usability issues. Additionally, staying updated on regulatory changes and best practices in utility design supports more thorough and effective software evaluations.

What is the difference between Pole Loading Software Review vs Line Design Technician?

We are seeking a highly skilled Technical Lead - Datacenter Deployments to act as our subject matter expert and operational coordinator for hardware staging, installation, and physical asset lifecycle management. This is a senior-level, individual contributor role focused on directing daily technical activities, maintaining service level targets, and executing high-standard physical deployments within our datacenter.

As the technical spearhead of the deployment crew, you will prioritize incoming work orders, coordinate task execution, and ensure quality control. Your daily work will center heavily around client-facing workspace hardware-specifically the imaging, configuration, and rollout of end-user endpoints and peripherals. Additionally, you will support physical datacenter infrastructure (hardware racking and power routing) and champion our secure asset sanitization, media destruction, and government recycling (DRMO) initiatives.

You will play a crucial role in providing support in the following areas:

  • Queue Optimization: Monitor and triage incoming incidents, service requests, and change orders within ServiceNow to ensure rapid response and resolution.
  • Task Allocation: Distribute daily deployment and troubleshooting assignments across team members based on capacity and skillset.
  • Quality Assurance: Review completed deployments to confirm they adhere to internal standards, safety guidelines, and cable management protocols.
  • Technical Escalations: Act as the primary point of contact for complex deployment roadblocks or hardware troubleshooting issues.
  • Pre-Deployment Preparation: Lead the staging process for client endpoints. This includes loading software images, installing specialized firmware, and deploying operating system updates.
  • Hardware Rollout: Execute physical setup, connectivity, and configuration for end-user systems, including thin clients, KVM switches, high-resolution monitors, speakers, and input peripherals (mice and keyboards).
  • Workspace Optimization: Standardize workstation builds to ensure a consistent, clean, and highly ergonomic layout for all end-users.
  • Data Erasure: Conduct secure data wiping protocols on end-of-life or transitioning storage media in accordance with strict security compliance standards.
  • Media Destruction: Operate physical destruction equipment to securely shred or crush decommissioned hard disk drives (HDDs) and solid-state drives (SSDs), keeping meticulous audit logs of destroyed serial numbers.
  • DRMO Coordination: Manage the end-to-end Defense Reutilization and Marketing Office (DRMO) process, including sorting surplus assets, completing compliance documentation, palletizing gear, and coordinating custody transfers.
  • Physical Cabinet Mounting: Perform rack-and-stack operations to secure physical devices and appliances inside server enclosures. (Please note: Logical server provisioning, operating system installations, and network configuration are handled by separate teams).
  • Infrastructure Power Setup: Support cabinet-level power requirements, including the installation of rack Power Distribution Units (PDUs) and neat power cord routing.
  • Inventory Accuracy: Log hardware locations and movements inside the datacenter database to guarantee near-real-time asset accuracy.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO SUCCEED:

  • Associates degree; may be substituted for additional years of experience
  • 3+ years of experience
  • Security Clearance Level: Must have a current/active Top Secret clearance with the ability to obtain TS/SCI status
  • Required Certifications: ITIL 5 Foundation certified within 9 months of start; DOW 8140 Certification
  • Location: Offutt AFB, NE
  • Imaging & Software Prep: Solid understanding of OS imaging utilities, firmware flashing procedures, and hardware diagnostics.
  • Media Handling & Disposal: Direct experience handling physical data sanitization software (e.g., NIST-compliant wiping tools) and operating mechanical media destroyers.
  • System Coordination: Strong proficiency in using IT Service Management tools (specifically ServiceNow) to organize, track, and close operational tasks.
  • Physical Capabilities: Comfortable performing labor-intensive duties, such as lifting up to 50 lbs, climbing ladders, routing cables under floors or behind racks, and palletizing heavy surplus shipments.
  • Practical familiarity with federal surplus protocols, specifically the DRMO lifecycle, paperwork, and staging procedures.
  • Understanding of security-related guidelines for media handling, such as NIST SP 800-88.
  • General understanding of datacenter environments (hot/cold aisle layouts, structured cabling, and power distribution).
  • Strong communication skills with an innate ability to explain technical steps clearly to junior technicians and stakeholders.
