Crew Leader Job Description 

Job Summary: The Crew Leader will work side by side with the team to ensure assigned properties are following Focal Pointe standards. Responsible for the oversight of the ground crew. Crew Leader responsibilities include monitoring the health of all plants and greenspaces, watering and feeding plants, trimming trees and shrubs, fertilizing, and mowing lawns, weeding gardens and keeping green spaces and walkways clear of debris and litter. You should know how to use and maintain landscaping equipment, including mowers, trimmers and fertilizers, while following health and safety regulations. 

Supervisory Responsibilities: 

  • This position will oversee Landcare crew. 

Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Install and maintain seasonal plants 

  • Mow, trim and fertilize green spaces 

  • Mulch, edge and weed gardens 

  • Prune and trim trees and bushes 

  • Maintain all gardening equipment and machinery, like mowers, trimmers and leaf blowers 

  • Monitor and maintain the health of plants 

  • Deal with pest problems that could damage plants 

  • Keep gardens and green spaces clear of debris and litter 

  • Directing activities on the job site  

  • Manage personnel effectively and efficiently  

  • Train and promote company standards 

  • Monitor all tools and equipment for maintenance  

  • Maintain a clean and safe job site at all times 

  • Performs administrative functions pertaining to crew management 

  • Interacts with clientele in order to help ensure job satisfaction  

  • Consistently on time and acting in a professional manner 

  • Participates in all safety training sessions 

  • Communicates effectively with crew, supervisor, and clients 

  • Ability to work in all weather conditions for extended amounts of time 

  • Ultimately, you will make sure our gardens and green spaces are always healthy and beautiful. 

  • Other duties as assigned. 

Education and Experience: 

  • Familiarity with landscaping design 

  • Extensive knowledge of regional plant life 

  • Knowledge of local pests and how to eliminate them 

  • Knowledge of synthetic and natural fertilizers 

  • Knowledge of state health and safety regulations for landscaping 

  • A high school degree or GED 

  • Valid class E driver’s license with a clean driving record  

  • Bilingual preferable but not require   

  • Proficient equipment operating skills including but not limited to: lawn mowers, string trimmers, stick edges, and pruners 

  • Knowledge of perennials and shrubs 

  • Highly motivated and detail oriented 

  • Good time management skills with the ability to prioritize and multitask 

  • Clean and professional appearance 

Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by the onsite Crew Leader.  

  • Use their hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls. 

  • Stand for long periods of time. 

  • Walk or run for long periods of time. 

  • Repeat the same movements. 

  • Bend or twist their body. 

  • Move two or more limbs together (for example, two arms, two legs, or one leg and one arm) while remaining in place. 

  • Make quick, precise adjustments to machine controls. 

  • Use one or two hands to grasp, move, or assemble objects. 

  • Hold the arm and hand in one position or hold the hand steady while moving the arm 

  • See details of objects that are less than a few feet away. 

  • Use muscles to lift, push, pull, or carry heavy objects. 

  • Use stomach and lower back muscles to support the body for long periods without getting tired. 

  • Bend, stretch, twist, or reach out. 

  • Understand the speech of another person. 

  • See details of objects that are more than a few feet away. 

  • The employee will also be required to lift and move up to 25lbs. 

  • This job primarily operates in an outdoor setting.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position that is expected to work at assigned site. Work hours are generally Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 P.M., however some flexibility of the schedule is permissible with supervisor approval. Overtime, evenings and weekend work may be required, as well as occasional day-time travel.
