Job description

The position is located at the Warm Springs Service Unit at the Warm Springs Health & Wellness Center in Warm Springs, OR. The primary purpose is to serve as the recognized authority in podiatric medicine, providing comprehensive podiatric medical and surgical services.
A REAL ID will be required beginning May 7, 2025, in accordance with 6 C.F.R. 37.5 (2021).Qualifications:To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):Education

Applicants must have a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) degree from a school of podiatric medicine accredited by the American Podiatric Medical Association's Council on Podiatric Medical Education(external link) (APMA) at the time the degree was obtained.

Licensure

Applicants must have passed the National Board of Podiatric Medical Examiners (external link) (NBPME) or the American Podiatric Medical Licensing Examination(external link) (APMLE). In addition, a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice podiatric medicine in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

Applicants who meet the basic requirements qualify for GS-11 grade level.

Experience

In addition to meeting the above education and licensure requirements, applicants must have one or more full years of experience, equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, in the practice of podiatry in an office, clinic, or hospital. Qualifying experience may include:

  • Diagnosis and treatment of foot, ankle, and lower leg problems;
  • Setting fractures, prescribing physical therapy or drugs, or performing surgery on feet, ankles, or legs;
  • Treatment of Achilles tendinitis, ganglia of the feet, diabetic neuropathy, foot ulcers, gout, rheumatoid arthritis; stress fractures, or bacterial, viral, and fungal infections; and/or
  • Other experience necessary to perform the duties of the position.
Additional Requirement for the GS-13 (or equivalent) Grade Level

In addition to the Basic Requirements for the GS-12 (or equivalent) level, applicants must complete a residency program in podiatry or complete one full year of professional podiatry experience that is equivalent to the next lower grade level.


In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
GS-13: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Perform minor outpatient podiatric surgical procedures, review past medical history, request or perform diagnostic test and examinations as necessary to obtain information relevant to each case. Diagnose, directs, prescribes or provides treatment, arranges for specialized care or hospitalization.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
