Job description

The Podiatry Medical Assistant will support the podiatrist and medical staff in the efficient operation of the podiatry practice. The ideal candidate will assist with patient care, perform administrative tasks, and ensure a clean and organized clinical environment. This role requires excellent communication skills, a strong knowledge of podiatric procedures, and a compassionate approach to patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Patient Care:Assist the podiatrist with patient examinations and treatments.
  • Prepare patients for examination by taking vitals, medical history, and documenting symptoms.
  • Provide instructions to patients regarding foot care, rehabilitation, and preventive measures.
  • Assist in minor surgical procedures and wound care under the supervision of the podiatrist.
  • Sterilize and prepare medical instruments and supplies for procedures.
  • Support in the application and removal of casts, dressings, and bandages.
  • Clinical Duties:Prepare and maintain examination rooms.
  • Set up and assist with diagnostic tests, such as X-rays or other imaging studies.
  • Record and document patient information in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Ensure accurate inventory of supplies and assist with ordering and stocking as needed.
  • Administrative Support:Schedule and confirm patient appointments.
  • Process patient insurance claims and verify eligibility.
  • Handle patient check-in and check-out, including co-pays and billing inquiries.
  • Maintain and update patient charts and other necessary documentation.
  • Patient Education:Educate patients on preventative care, foot health, and post-treatment instructions.
  • Provide follow-up care instructions and reminders for appointments or medication refills.
  • Compliance & Safety:Follow infection control policies and procedures.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations.
  • Ensure that the clinic environment is safe and adheres to OSHA standards.

Qualifications:

  • Education:High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Medical Assistant certification (CMA, RMA) preferred, not required.
  • Podiatric medical assistant training or experience is a plus.
  • Experience:Previous experience as a medical assistant, preferably in a podiatry or orthopedic setting, is preferred.
  • Experience with electronic health records (EHR) and medical billing is a plus.
