Job description

Summary

The Podcast Editor will assist in consistently producing high-quality, engaging podcast content in both audio and video formats that support the marketing and communication goals of the Barry Ad Company and Marketing Department. This position is responsible for the technical setup, editing, and publishing of podcast episodes while ensuring alignment with brand standards and creative excellence. The position supports the creative and technical aspects of podcast production, including recording setup, editing, and publishing for both audio and video platforms. The role plays a key part in maintaining a professional production workflow and delivering content on schedule across appropriate platforms.

Essential Functions
  • Works closely with Barry Ad Company and Barry Marketing staff in the planning, production, and distribution of podcast content for university-related programming.

  • Participates in the development of creative solutions to effectively communicate through a wide variety of creative tactics.

  • Collaborates with podcast hosts, producers, and other creative staff to align on episode themes, structure, and branding. Must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet specified deadlines.

  • Provide accurate time estimates for deliverables, as assigned.

  • Assists at photo/video shoots.

  • Responsible for editing podcast content in a timely fashion, ensuring high-quality sound and visual consistency.

  • Oversees the upload and publishing of episodes across podcast platforms (Spotify, Apple Podcasts, YouTube, etc.), including writing titles and descriptions.

  • Maintains a consistent posting schedule and works with team members to meet episode deadlines.

  • Keeps up to date with trends in podcasting, editing software updates, and content distribution best practices.

  • Organizes project folders, editing timelines, and assets in a shared drive or digital workspace.

  • Serves as a support resource for other student staff in learning and improving podcast production skills.

  • Other duties as assigned or as proactively identified.

Qualifications/Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications required.

  • Must possess exceptional computer skills.

  • Experience with the Macintosh operating platform is required.

  • Must have thorough knowledge of software applications such as Adobe Audition, Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Photoshop, and InDesign, as well as any widely used word processing and project management tools.

  • Familiarity with media file conversion, audio/video compression formats, and cloud-based collaboration platforms is preferred.

  • Must demonstrate a high level of creativity, technical skill, and storytelling ability in producing podcast episodes.

  • Must have proficiency in audio and video editing using applications such as Adobe Audition, Premiere Pro, or comparable software.

  • Must be able to set up, test, and troubleshoot podcast recording equipment (microphones, cameras, lighting, mixers, etc.).

  • Must manage file organization, backups, and content archiving for efficient access and future use.

  • Must be able to add branded intro/outro elements, music, graphics, and other assets as needed.

  • Must be able to accept feedback and direction (that may vary from positive to negative), address revisions based on this feedback and post for continuing approvals.
