Podcast Video Editor information

What does a podcast video editor do?

A Podcast Video Editor is responsible for editing and producing the video content of a podcast. They synchronize audio and video, cut unnecessary sections, add graphics and effects, and ensure the final product is visually engaging and polished. Their work helps podcasts reach wider audiences on video platforms like YouTube, while maintaining high production standards. Podcast Video Editors often collaborate closely with hosts, producers, and other team members to achieve the desired look and feel.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a podcast video editor, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Podcast Video Editor, you need proficiency in video and audio editing, a solid understanding of storytelling, and experience with post-production workflows, often supported by a portfolio of relevant projects. Familiarity with editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, and audio tools like Audacity or Adobe Audition is typically required. Attention to detail, creativity, and strong communication skills help ensure content is engaging and aligns with the podcast’s vision. These skills are essential for producing polished, professional episodes that captivate audiences and meet production standards.

What are some common challenges faced by podcast video editors when synchronizing audio and video for multi-guest recordings?

A frequent challenge for Podcast Video Editors is ensuring that audio and video tracks from multiple guests, often recorded remotely, are perfectly synchronized. Variations in recording equipment, internet lags, or unsynchronized start times can lead to discrepancies that require careful manual alignment. Editors often use visual cues, like hand claps or countdowns, and audio waveforms to match tracks precisely. Effective communication with hosts and guests about best recording practices can help minimize these issues and streamline the editing process.

Job description

Description:

ABOUT THE POSITION & ITS IMPACT

The Short-Form Video Editor is a full-time role based in Nashville, TN (with occasional travel to Cumberland Furnace, TN), reporting to Onsite’s Chief Creative Officer and the Human School Executive Producer. This person takes 90-plus-minute conversations from Human School, the podcast hosted by Miles Adcox, and finds the moments inside them that stop someone mid-scroll.

This isn’t a general content-editing job. It’s a storytelling role. You’ll spend your days inside raw interview footage looking for the moment the mask comes off, the reframe that lands like a gut punch, the detail so specific it makes an abstract feeling suddenly real. Every clip you cut carries someone’s real story out into the world, and the way you shape it decides whether that story reaches the person who needs to hear it.

ABOUT THE DAY-TO-DAY IN THIS ROLE

  • Review full episode transcripts and raw footage to identify 5–7 clip candidates per episode, flagging timestamps, why each moment works, and a suggested caption angle
  • Edit short-form clips (0–90 seconds) for Instagram Reels, TikTok, and YouTube Shorts, with pacing, sound design, captions, and visual polish that hold up as a standalone piece of content
  • Treat every clip as an experiment: cut multiple versions of the same moment with different hooks, opens, and pacing, and use performance data to learn what actually stops the scroll
  • Build a feedback loop between what’s published and what’s cut next, bringing those learnings into future episodes
  • Partner with the team on pre-production clip strategy, reviewing guest research to flag likely clip moments before the interview even happens
  • Stay ahead of short-form trends, sound and music choices, and platform-specific editing techniques across Reels, TikTok, and Shorts Work with autonomy on a weekly episode cadence, solving creative and technical challenges independently
  • Partner with all team members to foster an environment based on Onsite’s ANCHOR Values: Authenticity, Nurturing, Courageous, Humble, Open, and Resilient
Requirements:

IDEAL EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE FOR THE ROLE

  • 3+ years editing short-form video, ideally for a podcast, media brand, or storytelling-driven creator/company
  • A portfolio showing an ability to find and cut emotionally resonant moments from long-form conversation or interview footage
  • Experience in a fast-paced content environment with a weekly (or faster) publishing cadence
  • A strong grasp of storytelling mechanics and pacing, and the ability to explain why a clip works
  • Comfort working from transcripts as a first pass before diving into raw footage
  • An experimenter’s mindset: comfort with A/B testing hooks and using performance metrics to inform the next cut
  • Proficiency in Premiere Pro or similar professional editing software
  • We are open to candidates of all backgrounds who bring the storytelling instinct and experimenter’s mindset this role calls for. Videography experience, motion graphics skills, familiarity with Descript or Riverside, and a personal connection to emotional wellness content are all pluses, but not required.
