Job description

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

For anyone trying to follow Jesus, the questions poverty asks us become unavoidable:

  • What do we owe to the man on the street?
  • How can we respond to the everyday suffering we see?
  • How do people in poverty experience change?
  • What does Jesus think about poverty?
  • What kind of community is Jesus building?
  • Is God near to the brokenhearted, and does he save the crushed in spirit? Where? How?

These questions seem to us of deepest importance to the Church. During this next season, Chalmers will seek answers on the road and around the world, with organizations exploring what faithful actions look like in a changing world. From veterans of street ministry to women-led savings groups in West Africa, we'll discover what's working for people in poverty.

Most of all, we'll search for the heartbeat of Christ in the lives of his disciples - and share their sustaining energy.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

As we look for a Podcast Producer for a best-in class season of stories, we're seeking an experienced hand in audio production to travel, connect, and ask questions. Curiosity is everything.

A bank of experience in narrative audio production allows you to move quickly into the field with ideas, story angles, and production strategy.

Collaborating with the Head of Creative Media, you'll research opportunities, develop pitches, interview, and gather tape around the world. We envision a polyphonic, musical, story-based project that surprises audiences by reaching deeper than just the intellect.

As we develop Season One, you'll help the Head of Creative Media assemble a creative core team - assisting with the hire of an editor, field producer, and contract engineers. You'll work with the team to cut stories into final episodes, able to direct, but also to try your hand and ideas directly in the timeline as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5-10 years of audio production experience.
  • Must be an expert audio storyteller with a strong portfolio of narratives.
  • Self-starting capacity: able to shape and own this vision beside us.
  • A humble listener, able to connect with a wide-range of people
  • An inquisitive follower of Jesus
  • Preferred: Narrative audio editing experience.
  • Preferred: An interdisciplinary background in community development, economics, sociology, anthropology, missiology or theology.

COMMITMENTS:

  • Commitment to the Vision, Mission, and Values of the Chalmers Center
  • Play an active role in the life of a local church community
  • Seek to apply the gospel to all areas of life, including interpersonal relationships
  • Use a humble listening approach with both internal and external constituencies
  • Depend on the Holy Spirit and seek God's guidance when making decisions
  • Can thrive in a team that practices excellence, humility, hope, and unity

ABOUT CHALMERS:

The Chalmers Center shares big ideas and practical tools to help the church alleviate poverty. Learn more at chalmers.org
