What is a pod designer?

Pod Designers are professionals who specialize in creating modular, self-contained spaces known as 'pods.' These pods can serve various purposes, such as office workspaces, living units, or portable meeting rooms. Pod Designers focus on maximizing efficiency, functionality, and aesthetics within compact areas. They work closely with architects, engineers, and clients to ensure the pods meet specific needs and comply with safety and building standards. Their work often involves innovative use of materials, space planning, and sustainable design practices.

How does a pod designer collaborate with engineers and other team members during the design process?

Pod Designers work closely with cross-functional teams, including engineers, product managers, and manufacturing specialists, to bring pod concepts to life. Collaboration typically involves regular design reviews, sharing 3D models, and integrating feedback from various stakeholders to ensure the pod meets functional, safety, and aesthetic requirements. Clear communication and adaptability are essential, as specifications may change throughout the development cycle. This teamwork fosters innovation and helps address challenges such as spatial constraints or material limitations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a pod designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Pod Designer, you need expertise in spatial design, 3D modeling, and architectural principles, often supported by a degree in architecture, industrial design, or interior design. Familiarity with software like AutoCAD, SketchUp, and Revit, as well as knowledge of building codes and sustainable materials, is typically required. Strong creativity, attention to detail, and effective communication are essential soft skills for collaborating with clients and interdisciplinary teams. These skills ensure that pod designs are both functional and aesthetically pleasing, meeting client needs while adhering to technical standards.

Job description

Aderant is a global industry leading software company providing comprehensive business management solutions for law firms and other professional services organizations with a mission to help them run a better business. We are motivated by a collective desire to drive the legal industry to the forefront of innovation. With over 2,500 clients around the world, including 95 of the top AmLaw 100 firms, we are changing the outside perception of the legal sphere; where there was once resistance to modernization, we are creating a culture that embraces new ideas and technology.

At Aderant, the "A" is more than just a letter. It is a representation of how we fulfill our foundational purpose, serving our clients. It embodies our core values and reminds us that to achieve success, every day must start with the "A". We bring the "A" to life by fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and personal growth. We encourage our diverse teams to bring their whole selves to work - ideas, experience, and passion - to drive our mission forward.

Our people are our strength.

As a Senior UX Designer, you'llbe a key member of our design team, crafting intelligent user experiences and information architecture forStridyn, our legal and financial platform, across both desktop and mobile. You'llpair a strong eye for design with the technical fluency to bring ideas to life quickly - collaborating with product and engineering to shape, validate, and deliver work that holds up.You'lldraw on user research and product analytics to make informed decisions that improve the quality, value, and experience of everything we ship.

Design at Aderant is a living practice, andit'sevolving fast. We'veshifted from measuring activity to measuring impact - from outputs to outcomes, and from manual execution to AI-amplified thinking. We'relooking for designers who are excited to work this way, who think critically and love solving problems, who seek clarity before solutions, and who want to help sharpen the practice as we go.

Responsibilities

  • Work as part of a cross-functional pod - designer, PM, and engineers moving from problem tovalidatedprototype in a focused 1-2 weeksprint

  • Partner with the PM through Research & Discovery to understand and scope the problem, and start conceptualizing in Claude Design early rather than waiting for a handoff

  • Do the upstream thinking inCowork- problem framing, flow logic, and edge-case mapping - and distil it into a clear strategic summary that drives the making

  • Design every state, not just the happy path: empty, loading, error, partial data, and edge cases

  • Iterate together through validation - stress-testing flows, folding in the client feedback the PM gathers, and preparing work for engineering

  • Produce the validated Claude Design prototype as the primary handoff artefact, backed by clear supporting documentation and design rationale

  • Build with components and tokens from our design system, and help extend the team's practice - contributing to skills, agents, quality gates, andDesignOps

  • Conceptually design information architecture and UX flows for complex data structures, supporting paradigms like search, navigation, and actionable business functionality

  • Stay engaged beyond handoff - supporting engineering through build and QA so the experience ships as intended

  • Articulate your decisions clearly to cross-functional partners, keep your reasoning visible, and track work in the team's tools (e.g., Aha, Azure DevOps)

  • Be present for the meetings that matter, internally and across teams in different time zones

Skills & Qualifications

  • 5+ years of user experience / product design work

  • Fluency with - or clear excitement about - AI-native design workflows; you use AI as a core part of how you think, make, and review, not as a novelty

  • Product design experience in enterprise, cloud-based applications

  • Strong prototyping skills - you treat prototypes as tools for thinking and can move fast in a collaborative, pod-style environment

  • An outcomes-over-output mindset; comfortable validating early and iterating in the open

  • Experience developing wireframes and interactive prototypes

  • Experience documenting and annotating design work, and effectively articulating design decisions

  • Working knowledge of Figma (Auto Layout, componentdesign,FigJam) - used here as a canvas and for existing IP

  • Attention to detail and care for producing polished deliverables

  • Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation skills

Assets

  • Experience with Material UI and/or Bootstrap

  • Familiarity with HTML/CSS, React, Angular, JavaScript, or similar

  • A track recordof building or improvingDesignOpstooling, design systems, or team workflows
