Job description

SUMMARY

Assist in planning, designing, and directing geotechnical engineering or construction testing/inspection projects.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1.      Take ownership/responsibility for projects as assigned

  • Assist in the preparation of engineering agreements for his/her projects
  • Serve as a project manager or project engineer and as a designated client contact
  • Prepare design computations and quantity estimates
  • Responsible for control of work-in-process, ensures accurate client billings, and monitors outstanding accounts receivable and collection efforts on his/her projects
  • Analyze reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, tests, and aerial photographs on soil composition, terrain, hydrological characteristics, and other topographical and geologic data to plan and design project
  • Handle routine contract administration
  • Prepare or modifies reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules, environmental impact studies, and designs for project
  • Instruct draftspersons / technicians to reduce designs to working drawings
  • Visit construction site to monitor progress and other duties per the contract documents; perform field work as needed
  • Serve as onsite project representative
  • Use computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering and design documents
  • Responsible for project manager and/or project team quality system tasks as defined in the quality manual


2.   Satisfactory or above profitability of Project/Client of 15+%

  • Assist in the coordination of pricing, estimating, scoping and marketing strategies for proposed projects
  • Prepare and monitor project budgets for smaller, less complex projects.


3.    Proactively communicate and follow up with engineering manager

4.    Attend client meetings - days or nights

5.    Direct and supervise engineering intern’s activities

6.   Manage project schedules for timely completion of smaller projects.

7.    Show commitment as a team player - support fellow engineers and interns

8.    Contribute to a positive team atmosphere.

9.    Support directives from the engineering manager and the president

10.  The PE should join and participate in a Professional Org. acceptable to GES

11.  Perform other duties as assigned

DESIRED OUTCOMES OR RESULTS

All projects will be carried out in a manner consistent with the Company’s goals & standards. Project engineers will have successful, positive relationships with clients, project managers and other staff members.


EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS DESIRE

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited four-year college or university and a minimum of 5 years relevant experience or the equivalent thereof.
  • P.E. required (Utah preferred) or the ability to obtain one within 3 months of employment
  • Geotechnical Engineering is preferred
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions, basic algebra, geometry, trigonometry and financial functions to practical situations.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Valid driver’s license
