Description The project environment has changed and evolved over the past number of years within state government, requiring the need for an expansion of a project manager's competency base. As agency budgets tighten and our constituents demand more accountability, the need for more business-focused project management practices that align to state government becomes imperative. This requires project managers to have a broader skill set than those represented by holding the PMP credential.

Those traditional project management skills are still needed. However, the State of Georgia Project Manager Certification Program broadens those skills beyond the Project Management Professional (PMP) credential to encompass a business focused project management competency with a state government focus. The curriculum, assessments, reviews and coaching have been designed to ensure a project delivers a valuable business solution that aligns to the agency's mission.

How the Program Works The Enterprise Portfolio Management Office at the Georgia Technology Authority has created a Project Manager Certification Program to advance project management competencies in state government.

Participants applying to the program may enter through one of three tracks. The first track is determined by whether the applicant holds the PMP credential. The second track is for those not holding the credential.

The third track is designed for management personnel who either manage project managers or oversee projects, programs, or portfolios at a senior level in the organization.
