Overview
The Construction Manager is responsible for managing and coordinating construction and renovation projects across UnityPoint Health facilities. This role provides leadership from project conception through closeout, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and in compliance with applicable codes and healthcare regulations. The Construction Manager serves as a liaison among stakeholders, contractors, and regulatory agencies, while supporting facility operations and maintaining a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors.

Responsibilities
  • Directs and manages multiple, concurrent construction and renovation projects, from design and planning through completion.
  • Serves as liaison to stakeholders, interpreting needs and translating them into project requirements.
  • Coordinates and supervises contractors, architects, engineers, and consultants to ensure quality outcomes.
  • Oversees scheduling, budgeting, and change management, ensuring projects remain on track.
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable building codes, healthcare construction standards, and safety regulations (e.g., OSHA, NFPA, TJC, DNV, DHS).
  • Develops and implements Construction Risk Assessments, Infection Control Risk Assessments (ICRA), and interim life safety measures.
  • Prepares facilities and documentation for accreditation inspections by regulatory authorities.
  • Participates in capital budget development, including high-level design scoping and cost-benefit analysis.
  • Tracks project expenditures, verifies progress payments, and manages change orders. Provides reporting and presentations to leadership regarding project status, costs, and timelines.
  • Coordinates with Facilities and Plant Operations staff to ensure ongoing maintenance needs are addressed during construction.
  • Supports space planning, relocations, and lease management for clinic or office facilities as needed.
  • Identifies opportunities for facility improvements and assists in long range planning and capital budget prioritization.
  • Ensures timely submission of as-built drawings, O&M manuals, commissioning reports, and training materials.
  • Maintains accurate project records, archiving design and construction documentation for future reference.

Qualifications
Education:
  • High School diploma, vocational training, or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, Business, or related field preferred.

Experience:
  • Minimum of three (3) years' experience in construction project coordination or management required.
  • Five (5) or more years of progressively responsible experience in commercial, industrial, or healthcare construction project management preferred.

License(s)/Certification(s):
  • Valid driver's license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons required.
  • AUTOINS required when driving a personal vehicle.
  • Professional Certifications preferred:
  • Licensed Professional Engineer
  • Licensed Architect
  • Project Management Professional through PMI
  • PMI Construction Professional through PMI
  • Certified Health Care Construction through AHA
  • LEED AP
