Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC/APRN)

The Wave of North Florida is a leading provider of medical detoxification and residential substance use treatment services. Our mission is to provide compassionate, evidence-based care that empowers individuals to overcome addiction and build lasting recovery. We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC/APRN) to join our multidisciplinary team. The ideal candidate is passionate about behavioral health, addiction medicine, and providing high-quality psychiatric care to individuals with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions.

Position Summary: The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) is responsible for providing psychiatric evaluations, diagnosis, medication management, and ongoing psychiatric care for patients receiving medical detoxification and residential treatment. The PMHNP collaborates closely with the Medical Director, nursing staff, therapists, and clinical leadership to ensure safe, effective, and patient-centered care.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Perform comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and mental health assessments.
  • Diagnose and treat psychiatric and co-occurring mental health disorders.
  • Provide psychiatric medication evaluations and ongoing medication management.
  • Evaluate patients for withdrawal-related psychiatric symptoms and collaborate with the medical team during detoxification.
  • Participate in admission assessments and treatment planning.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, therapists, case managers, and other members of the interdisciplinary treatment team.
  • Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment plans as clinically appropriate.
  • Provide crisis intervention and psychiatric consultation as needed.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant documentation in the electronic medical record.
  • Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, medications, treatment options, and recovery.
  • Participate in treatment team meetings and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal and Florida regulations, accreditation standards, and facility policies.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current, unrestricted Florida Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) license.
  • Board Certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC).
  • Master's or Doctoral degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
  • Active DEA registration (if prescribing controlled substances).
  • Current BLS/CPR certification.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain credentialing and privileging.
  • Successful Level II background screening and drug screening.
  • Strong clinical judgment, communication, and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two or more years of experience in psychiatry, addiction medicine, behavioral health, or substance use treatment.
  • Experience working in medical detoxification, residential treatment, inpatient psychiatry, or crisis stabilization.
  • Experience treating co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders.
  • Familiarity with medication-assisted treatment (MAT), withdrawal management, and evidence-based addiction treatment practices.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care and recovery-oriented treatment.
