Description:

At Leonard's Express, Inc. we are looking for a motivated dispatcher who wants to help us improve our fleet. A great trucking company starts with their drivers, so our dispatchers are titled Driver Advocates. Our driver advocates are on the front line of our business. They not only keep the drivers moving but work to build personal relationships with our drivers to keep the family atmosphere of our company strong.


We have an immediate need to grow our team by one night and weekend dispatcher. This is a full-time position. The ideal employee should display readiness to proactively work with our drivers to evaluate their needs, get to the root of the problem, then make a sound decision to resolve the problem. In this capacity, the Driver Advocate should be prepared to evaluate solutions relating to but not limited to safety, mental and physical well-being, family responsibilities, cost management, productivity, company image, and customer satisfaction. All job duties must be performed in a way that promotes safe practices in accordance with Leonard’s established safety programs.

The essential duties and responsibilities of the position include:

  • Monitor, track, and trace truck loads to ensure they are on time for deliveries throughout the night
  • Inform external customers, planning group and customer service group of delivery or pick-up status via email or phone
  • Monitor “hot” loads to ensure they are on time for set delivery
  • Handle service calls from drivers throughout the night and promote operational safety
  • Review and consult with drivers and additional personnel on incidents, accidents, and claims
  • Supports driver retention efforts by providing drivers with prompt and courteous customer service
  • Monitors all ISAAC messaging from drivers, generate TMW updates and contact appropriate personnel when needed
  • Highlight to drivers they are the face of Leonard’s to create a strong professional image with both themselves and the cleanliness/maintenance of our equipment
  • Provide open communication/dialogue with drivers to discuss route miles, routing, fuel, tolls, accident/ incident damage
  • Issue night delivery EFS (money codes) for various payments and relays information to the appropriate department for invoicing
  • Ensures TMW is kept up to date regarding the status of company trucks, and set up carriers in TMW
  • Set up and update outside carriers hired by Leonard’s brokerage department after hours and weekends
Requirements:

  • Good interpersonal and customer service skills, well-developed verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work as both an individual contributor and as a team member
  • The ability to effectively prioritize responsibilities and meet assigned deadlines
  • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks, as well as to accept direction on given assignments

Based on the technical and professional responsibilities of the position, the Off Hours Dispatcher is required to have:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in the transportation industry as a dispatcher
  • Experience with systems such as TMW, TMT, or other transportation management systems
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills

The Off Hours Dispatcher is primarily located in a climate-controlled office environment with moderate noise level, but may experience other physical environments while traveling. Physical requirements include:

  • Using computer hardware and software for extended periods of time (repetitive motion)
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally
  • Must be able to work night shift, weekends & holidays
