Job description

Job Title: TECHNICIAN: PLUMBING AND ELECTRICAL MAINTENANCE
Department: Parks and Recreation
Reports To: Parks and Recreation Maintenance Manager
Directs Work Of: Assigns work, schedules, general oversite to General Labor
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Effective Dates: PG 1/1/2019; REV 7/27/21; Rev. 4/8.22, Rev. 5/5/25
EEO-4 Classification: Technician
Normal Work Hours: 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Normal Work Days: Monday through Friday
Education/Experience: Requires a minimum of a high School diploma/GED, Class B CDL, Electrician Training certification (1 year training program) and a minimum of 3 years' experience in the repair and maintenance of water pumps, filtration systems, (public pools and fountains) electrical lighting, and operating heavy equipment. Equivalent education, certification, training, experience, skills, and knowledge may be considered.
Position Summary:
Performs semi-skilled and skilled electrical repair work. Maintains, repairs, inspects, updates and enhances the City parks electrical systems, plumbing systems and playground equipment. Ensures all City park plumbing and electrical systems and park playground equipment are fully operational and safe for community use.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Repair and maintain electrical system panels for lighting of Park facilities and greenspace properties. Assist other City employees with installation, operation and dismantling electrical systems for City special events at River Stage, parks and festivals. Maintains Big 4 Station lighting and water features. Ensures electrical work meets electrical code requirements.
Maintains and repairs plumbing in City parks' restrooms; installs toilets, sinks and water lines. Ensures plumbing work meets plumbing code requirements.
Inspects and repairs City parks' playground equipment to maintain American Society for Testing and Materials, ASTM, standards.
Operates CDL water truck and snow plow truck. Provides general maintenance including painting, welding, mounting and anchoring equipment, setting up/cleanup for special events, operating department equipment and utilizing a variety of hand and power tools.
Repair and maintain pumps and fountains located on the City's Park/Rec greenspaces (Big 4 Station) and aquatic facilities. Maintain all pumps in operating condition and monitor chemical metering pumps. Back wash pumps and filters. Provide miscellaneous plumbing repairs in Park/Rec facilities as requested/required.
Assigns work, schedules, and provides general oversight to General Laborer.
Performs other duties and assumes other responsibilities as apparent or as delegated.

Technical Skills - Maintains required certifications, seeks training/education opportunities to maintain/improve required skills for job, demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness; Monitors own work to ensure quality.

Education and/or Experience
Requires a minimum of a high School diploma/GED, Class B CDL, and a minimum of 3 years' experience in the repair and maintenance of water pumps, filtration systems, (public pools and fountains) electrical lighting, and operating heavy equipment. Also requires Electrician Training certification (1 year training program). Equivalent education, certification, training, experience, skills, and knowledge may be considered.
Language Skills. Ability to read and interpret technical procedures, safety regulations, operating and maintenance manuals and government regulations. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence with minimal supervisory oversight. Ability appropriately respond to questions from the general public, co-workers, supervisors or other employees of the City.
Mathematical Skills Ability to perform and understand basic math calculations including proportions, surface area, circumference, adding, subtracting, dividing and multiplying whole and decimal numbers using a calculator.
Computer/Technical Skills. Ability to perform general business operations utilizing Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook (email). Ability to read and interpret blue prints for electrical, plumbing and playground systems/equipment.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations. Requires CDL-B license and Electrical Training certification.
Other Skills and Abilities. Ability to operate skid stees and dump trucks. Ability to perform basic welding. Available for work beyond scheduled hours as needed/requested.
