Plumbing Engineer


Locations:ย Meriden, Hartford, Norwood, Warwick, Charlotte, Wilmington

BL Companies is growing and is seeking a Plumbing Engineer to join our Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) group. This role is responsible for the engineering design, analysis, and coordination of plumbing systems for a variety of building types, ensuring efficient, code-compliant, and innovative solutions.

The successful candidate will support plumbing engineering projects, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and contribute to department-wide design deliverables. This role requires a strong foundation in plumbing system design and construction documentation.

This position is ideal for an engineer/designer seeking a collaborative environment where technical expertise drives innovative plumbing solutions.

*This role can be based in any of the following offices: Meriden, Hartford, Norwood, Warwick, Charlotte, Wilmington*

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design plumbing systems for commercial, institutional, and industrial projects, including domestic water, sanitary, stormwater, and specialty systems.
  • Develop and review construction documents, specifications, and detailed engineering drawings.
  • Ensure designs comply with building codes, standards, and sustainable design principles.
  • Coordinate with architects, engineers, and other stakeholders to resolve design and construction challenges.
  • Collaborate with a team of engineers and designers, sharing best practices in plumbing system design and engineering principles.
  • Contribute to the development of firmwide plumbing design standards, workflows, and technical guidelines.

Required Experience:

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Mechanical or Plumbing Engineering (or related field) or a minimum of 7+ years of relevant experience.
  • 3+ years of experience with commercial or industrial design in Revit; residential experience is a plus.
  • CPD certification (or in progress).
  • Proven experience designing plumbing systems in a professional engineering setting.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and Excel.
  • Strong understanding of plumbing codes, standards, and industry best practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to support multidisciplinary teams.
  • Fire Protection experience is a plus.
