Job description

MEP Superintendent

We are representing a well-established general contractor seeking an experienced MEP Superintendent to oversee all mechanical, electrical, plumbing, low-voltage, and commissioning activities on a high-profile commercial project. This role is ideal for a field-driven leader with deep experience supervising MEP trades, coordinating complex building systems, and managing installation through startup, testing, and turnover.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, technically strong, and comfortable directing subcontractors in the field while ensuring seamless communication with the project team, design professionals, and commissioning partners.

Key Responsibilities

Field Leadership & MEP Oversight

  • Serve as the onsite leader for all mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and controls contractors.
  • Oversee installation quality, safety, productivity, and daily sequencing of MEP trades.
  • Conduct QA/QC field checks on rough-ins, equipment placement, penetrations, piping routes, ductwork, electrical gear, and systems integration.
  • Coordinate closely with commissioning agents to ensure system readiness, testing, and punch list closure.
  • Review field conditions daily, identify conflicts, and work with design teams to resolve issues quickly.
  • Ensure all MEP work meets code requirements, project specifications, and design intent.

Scheduling & Coordination

  • Lead MEP daily huddles and weekly planning meetings with subcontractors.
  • Update short-interval schedules focused on mechanical, plumbing, and electrical milestones.
  • Coordinate shutdowns, tie-ins, equipment deliveries, riser work, and major system installations.
  • Ensure proper phasing, sequencing, and logistics planning with other trades and the GC team.

Documentation & Communication

  • Manage field-level documentation including daily reports, inspections, testing logs, and deficiency tracking.
  • Oversee MEP-related RFIs, submittals, and shop drawings from a field perspective.
  • Support the project team with closeout tracking including O&M manuals, test reports, and start-up documentation.
  • Participate in OAC and subcontractor meetings as the field representative for all MEP scopes.

Safety & Quality Control

  • Enforce safety standards and ensure all MEP trades follow site-specific and OSHA guidelines.
  • Verify proper lockout/tagout procedures during equipment startup and shutdown coordination.
  • Maintain a clean, professional, and compliant jobsite throughout all phases of MEP work.

Qualifications

  • 7–10+ years of field supervision experience in commercial construction.
  • Strong background overseeing HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and building controls in the field.
  • Proven ability to manage complex MEP installations, testing, and system turnovers.
  • Ability to read and interpret MEP drawings, schematics, one-lines, piping diagrams, and shop drawings.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to direct multiple trades simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in daily reports and construction documentation (Procore or similar tools preferred).
  • Experience supporting projects $20M–$50M+ in size is ideal.
  • Ability to travel locally as needed for project support.
