Job description

COORDINATOR - SKILLED TRADES LAB PT - PLUMBING
KENNEDY-KING COLLEGE
Reporting to a Dean or assigned administrator, the Coordinator - Plumbing Skilled Trades Lab (Part-Time) works with students in a lab environment to provide hands-on demonstration and instruction in the plumbing program at CCC.
The Coordinator demonstrates, observes, and instructs students practicing plumbing skills and techniques including blueprint reading, pipe fitting, installation of plumbing systems, maintenance, and repair. This role also involves troubleshooting plumbing systems and equipment, enforcing safety procedures and protocols, and ensuring lab compliance. Additionally, the Coordinator oversees the repair and maintenance of plumbing tools and equipment, maintains proper inventory of plumbing supplies, and supports instructors and faculty in classroom and lab instruction to meet program needs. Performs related duties as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Set up and prepare the plumbing lab environment for demonstrations and practice of plumbing techniques and skills using hand and power tools.
  • Industry certification in plumbing or equivalent industry training.
  • Demonstrate a variety of plumbing techniques such as pipe fitting, soldering, installation of fixtures, and blueprint interpretation.
  • Assist instructors with lab activities to ensure alignment and coordination with classroom instruction.
  • Inspect, organize, and maintain plumbing tools, equipment, and supplies to ensure proper working condition.
  • Maintain inventory records, order supplies, and manage stock levels for plumbing materials.
  • Report equipment failures or safety concerns to management and take necessary actions to ensure student and staff safety.
  • Provide information to current and prospective students about the plumbing program at CCC.
  • Support additional lab scheduling and assist students during open lab hours for practice and skill development.
  • Participate in group tours, recruitment efforts, and prospective student interviews as needed.
  • Attend all program and departmental meetings.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Technical expertise in plumbing, including blueprint reading, pipe fitting, installation and repair of plumbing systems, and use of hand and power tools.
  • Strong knowledge of plumbing safety protocols, OSHA regulations, and lab compliance.
  • Minimum of two years of experience working in plumbing or related skilled trade.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate and maintain plumbing equipment and tools.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills to handle multiple lab and instructional requests.
  • Clear communication skills and a customer service mindset when interacting with students, faculty, and vendors.
  • Ability to lift heavy materials and work in physically demanding environments.
  • Proficiency in presenting technical information effectively to students.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a culturally diverse educational environment.
  • Some proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

The salary for this position is $30/hr.
Offered salary will be determined by the respective collective bargaining agreement and applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities.
