Job description

Senior Trades Worker Location: Volusia County, FL Position Summary Volusia County is seeking experienced Senior Trades Workers to perform skilled journeyman-level construction, maintenance, repair, and renovation work with minimal supervision. This position supports County facilities, utilities, parks, and infrastructure operations and may require expertise in HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, Carpentry, Masonry, Painting, Mechanical Systems, or Utility Maintenance. Key Responsibilities Building & Facility Maintenance Perform maintenance, repairs, renovations, and new construction work.

Troubleshoot and repair HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and structural systems. Perform preventive maintenance on facilities and equipment. Respond to emergency maintenance situations as needed.

Skilled Trades Work Electrical repairs, lighting, switches, receptacles, motors, and conduit installation. HVAC troubleshooting, repairs, component replacement, and preventive maintenance. Plumbing repairs, fixture installation, pipe replacement, and maintenance.

Carpentry work including framing, doors, windows, ceilings, and renovations. Masonry, concrete, sidewalks, driveways, and drainage structure repairs. Painting, surface preparation, and finishing work.

Welding and small engine repairs as required. Utility & Infrastructure Support Support water and wastewater treatment facilities. Maintain water mains, lift stations, and utility infrastructure.

Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and structural utility systems. Equipment Operation Operate construction and maintenance equipment including: Tractors Front Loaders Mini Excavators Skid Steers Dump Trucks Pickup Trucks Trailers Load and unload equipment and construction materials safely. Administrative Duties Enter work information into County asset management systems.

Utilize Microsoft Word, Excel, and email for reporting and communication. Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, maps, and technical drawings. Prepare material estimates and job layouts.

Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or GED. Minimum 4 years of progressively responsible experience in one or more of the following: HVAC Electrical Plumbing Carpentry Mechanical Maintenance Painting Pipe Installation & Repair Masonry Concrete Work Journeyman-level experience in at least one skilled trade. Valid Florida Driver's License required.

CDL may be required depending on assignment. Preferred Skills HVAC Certification and troubleshooting experience. Commercial or industrial electrical maintenance experience.

Experience operating construction equipment. Leadership or crew supervision experience. Ability to read blueprints and technical drawings.

Experience using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS). Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Strong troubleshooting and repair skills. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Ability to supervise and train team members. Ability to estimate labor and material requirements. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and respond to emergencies.

Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to relocate to different County facilities as operational needs require. Physical Requirements Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull 25-100 lbs.

Stand, walk, bend, stoop, climb, reach, and work on uneven terrain. Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. Exposure to heat, humidity, cold, rain, dust, chemicals, confined spaces, and other environmental conditions.

Schedule Full-Time 40 Hours Per Week Potential Wednesday-Sunday Schedule Depending on Assignment Ideal candidates will have strong HVAC or Electrical experience along with a broad maintenance and construction background.
