Facilities Management

Hourly Pay: $46.46

Closing Date: Open to filled.

Job Summary: Maintenance, repair, retrofit, new installation, and testing of various plumbing systems. Inspection and testing of Water Based Fire protection systems. Provide emergency response for these systems.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Inventory, test, maintain and repair plumbing systems. Inventory, maintain, monitor, and test fire sprinkler systems. Provide emergency response for said systems.
  • Install plumbing material, equipment, and fixtures related to plumbing remodeling projects.
  • Accommodate plumbing and fire protection contractors as needed. Help with mobilization, system control, and monitor progress.
  • Complete mandatory annual testing of backflow preventers. Register test results with the Dept of Safety & Professional Services.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Current resident of Wisconsin.
  • Possession of a valid Wisconsin Driver’s License, able to be maintained throughout employment.
  • Possession of a High School Diploma or GED Equivalent.
  • Completion of a state recognized plumbing apprenticeship program.
  • At least five (5) years’ experience as a Journeyman Plumber with Maintenance, service, and repair of commercial plumbing systems preferred
  • Possession of a Wisconsin Journeyman or Master Plumber License.
  • Cross Connection Device Tester Certification to be obtained within (1) year of hire date
  • Basic knowledge of all related computer and software applications, such as word processing and spreadsheets.
  • Able to lift/carry up to 50 lbs. and push/pull up to 75 lbs.
  • Willing and able to work on a regular and/or frequent on-call schedule.

Job Competencies:

  • Ability to be on call once weekly and every 6th weekend.
  • Assist in managing plumbing and fire sprinkler inventory. Ability to perform data entry in maintenance computer program.
  • Work as a cohesive member of the Plumbing team.

Applicants must be able to work in all Milwaukee County facilities including secured detention/high-security facilities and work in areas with sensitive information and assets.  Required that applicants successfully undergo a criminal history background check to maintain security clearance for Milwaukee County facilities.

In accordance with Section 11, Rule 3 of the Civil Service Rules a non-competitive examination will be held for this position. The non-competitive examination will consist of criteria deemed appropriate by the Director of Human Resources.
