Facilities Maintenance Assistant
Job Overview
The Facilities Maintenance Assistant supports the Maintenance Technician or Facilities Manager in ensuring that buildings, equipment, and grounds remain safe, clean, and fully operational. This role performs routine repairs, preventive maintenance, and responds to service requests in a timely, professional manner. The position may also assist with the maintenance and minor mechanical repairs of company vehicles, forklifts, and other material handling equipment as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform basic repairs such as fixing leaks, replacing light bulbs, patching walls, and tightening fixtures.
- Assist with preventive maintenance on HVAC systems, plumbing, electrical components, building systems, and mechanical equipment.
- Perform or assist with routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and minor mechanical repairs on company vehicles, forklifts, and other material handling equipment.
- Conduct regular inspections of facilities, equipment, and grounds to identify safety hazards or maintenance needs.
- Support larger repair projects by preparing tools, materials, and work areas.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas, tools, maintenance equipment, and storage areas.
- Respond to maintenance requests from staff, tenants, or customers.
- Help with groundskeeping tasks such as trash removal, sweeping, snow removal, or minor landscaping.
- Monitor inventory of maintenance supplies, tools, and repair parts, and report shortages.
- Follow all safety procedures and report unsafe conditions immediately.
Work Environment
- Indoor and outdoor work in various weather conditions.
- May require occasional evening or weekend availability depending on facility needs.
- May involve working around mechanical equipment, vehicles, forklifts, and other powered material handling equipment.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience in building/facilities maintenance.
- Must have at least one (1) year of mechanical experience performing maintenance and repairs on automotive vehicles, forklifts, or other material handling equipment
- Basic knowledge of building systems, including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC, and general mechanical systems.
- Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot basic mechanical issues.
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs. and perform physical tasks such as bending, climbing, and standing for extended periods.
- Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, and common maintenance equipment.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Good communication and teamwork abilities.
- High school diploma or equivalent.

$19-22 per hour, depending on experience.
