What is a pleasure pier?

A Pleasure Pier is a type of pier built along the coast, primarily designed for leisure and entertainment rather than for shipping or transport. These piers often feature amusement rides, arcades, food stands, and other attractions for visitors to enjoy. Popular in seaside resorts, Pleasure Piers have been iconic destinations for family fun and social gatherings since the 19th century. They are especially common in the UK and the United States, with famous examples including the Santa Monica Pier and Brighton Palace Pier.
