Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Specialist Engineer - Electrical is responsible for all aspects of the electrical design of Industrial

Ground Support Equipment such as Air Conditioner, Air Start and Ground Power units which utilize a

diesel engine, hybrid, or battery power as an energy source. This position includes system design and

system architecture development, electrical control system design and development, control software

definition, programming, documentation and development. A successful Electrical Engineer will be able

to conceptualize solutions to technical problems, work independently to generate the necessary drawings

and design documents, and communicate technical issues effectively with all levels of management.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

(Other duties may be assigned)

• Layout of the Electrical system architecture for new product development and prototyping.

• Definition of the control system architecture for new product development using basic control

system theories

• Initial programming and maintenance of unit controls in PLCs, HMIs in CoDeSys development

software.

• Maintain and update existing C code for embedded microcontrollers.

• Selection and application of electromechanical control devices for product development such as

contactors, relays, switches, circuit breakers, transformers, and power supplies.

• Creation and maintenance of electrical documentation, including schematics, wiring diagrams,

wiring harnesses, cable assemblies, and electrical cabinet bills of materials

• Creation of test plan, and first power up instructions for the new product developed.

• Close support of first product start up with testing team at the factory, and early production runs of

equipment.

• Interact with product engineer, and other disciplines to ensure clean integration of work into the

machine.

• Cost Control to Design to Cost (DTC) objectives through proper component selection and

coordination with Product Manager

• Other assignments as designated by immediate and/or higher supervisor/s


OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

• ISO 9001: establish standards, procedures and other documents in accordance with ISO 9001.

• Maintain the currency with respect to technical and supervisory skills by attending training

classes, special technical and administration courses; seminars, exhibits and trade shows are

needed.


QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

• Three years’ experience with industrial type equipment and their control systems.

• Ability to read mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic circuit diagrams, and understand their functions

from the diagram.

• Capable of schematic layout, wiring sizing, and control cabinet layouts.

• AC motors control experience, both electromechanical and using VFD type controls preferred

• Previous PLC programming experience preferred, especially in an IEC 61131-3 compliant

programming environment (e.g. CoDeSys)

• Working knowledge of C programming language preferred

• Familiarity of working within UL, NEC, and CE compliance design rules.

• Automotive type wiring harness design, and layout experience is a plus.


OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Ability to utilize Microsoft Office to create documents, spreadsheets, and presentations as needed to

fulfill role.

• Basic working knowledge of Solidworks or equivalent 3D CAD software preferred


EDUCATION:

• AS degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent

• BSEE or better preferred
