What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a PLC Intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a PLC Intern, you need a foundational understanding of electrical engineering principles, basic programming knowledge, and coursework or training related to Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs). Familiarity with PLC programming software such as Siemens TIA Portal, Allen-Bradley RSLogix, or similar platforms is typically expected. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly are important soft skills. These competencies enable effective troubleshooting, collaboration with engineering teams, and the successful execution of automation projects in industrial environments.

What types of projects or tasks can a PLC Intern expect to work on during their internship?

As a PLC Intern, you can expect to assist with programming, testing, and troubleshooting programmable logic controllers (PLCs) in a manufacturing or automation environment. Typical tasks may include supporting senior engineers in developing control logic, wiring and configuring hardware, and participating in system upgrades or maintenance. You may also help document processes, create technical reports, and collaborate with maintenance or production teams to resolve issues. This hands-on experience provides a valuable foundation for understanding industrial automation systems and can lead to more advanced engineering roles.
