What does a playwright do?

A Playwright is a writer who creates scripts for theatrical performances, including dialogue, stage directions, and character development. They craft compelling stories that engage audiences, working independently or in collaboration with directors and producers. Playwrights may also revise their scripts based on rehearsals and feedback to enhance the production. Their work can range from original plays to adaptations of existing works.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be a playwright?

To thrive as a Playwright, you need excellent creative writing skills, an understanding of dramatic structure, and familiarity with theatre history and literature, often supported by a background in English, creative writing, or theatre arts. Experience with scriptwriting software like Final Draft or Celtx is common, though formal certifications are less typical unless pursuing academic roles. Strong interpersonal skills, adaptability, and the ability to accept feedback are vital for collaborating with directors, actors, and production teams. These abilities ensure plays are not only well-crafted but also feasible for production and resonate with audiences.

What are the typical stages of developing a play, and how much collaboration is involved?

Developing a play usually involves several stages: initial scriptwriting, multiple rounds of revision based on feedback, workshops or staged readings to test material, and further edits before full production. Playwrights frequently collaborate with directors, dramaturgs, and sometimes actors, especially during workshops and rehearsals, to refine the script and ensure it translates well on stage. This collaborative process helps ensure that the final script aligns with the creative vision of the team and is practical for live performance. Being open to feedback and adaptation is essential for successfully bringing a script from initial draft to stage-ready production.

Is playwright in demand now?

The demand for playwrights varies by region and industry, but overall, opportunities exist in theater, film, and television. Success often depends on a strong portfolio, networking, and the ability to adapt to different media formats. Competition can be high, and freelance or contract work is common in this field.

About Trajan Wealth
With over $3 billion in assets under management and advisement, Trajan® Wealth is one of the fastest-growing Registered Investment Advisor firms in the country.
What sets us apart is our fully integrated, in-house model - combining fee-only wealth management, estate planning through Trajan Estate, and tax strategy through Trajan Tax.
We don't refer out critical components of a client's financial life. We bring them together under one fiduciary standard - the Family Office.
Role Overview
This role is focused on automation rather than functional testing. You'll own the automated UI test coverage across our applications and bring a performance-and-scale mindset, stress testing, load testing, and benchmarking, to everything we ship. Over time, this role will also grow into security engineering, so an interest in application security is a strong plus.
This role would be 100% onsite at our Scottsdale corporate headquarters.
Duties and responsibilities
  • Design and write automated test cases covering the entire UI
  • Build and maintain automated coverage across web applications, the mobile app, and customer-facing portals
  • Automate data validation checks against Snowflake to catch pipeline and reporting regressions
  • Create and maintain the automation suite for both existing and new applications
  • Conduct stress testing, load testing, and performance benchmarking
  • Perform security testing, including automated security scans, vulnerability checks, and validation of authentication and access controls, with the goal of growing into a broader security engineering role over time
  • Establish and track performance baselines to catch regressions before they reach production
  • Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines so coverage runs continuously

Required Qualifications:
  • Proven experience building and maintaining UI automation suites with a modern framework (Selenium, Playwright, or Cypress)
  • Automation scripting in Java and/or JavaScript/TypeScript
  • Experience automating tests for both web and mobile applications
  • Performance and load testing with tools such as JMeter, Gatling, or k6
  • API test automation (e.g., REST Assured, Postman)
  • SQL proficiency for automating data validation (Snowflake experience a plus)
  • Version control with Git (Bitbucket a plus)

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Exposure to security testing tools or practices (e.g., OWASP ZAP, Burp Suite, dependency/vulnerability scanning)
  • Mobile test automation experience with Appium (we have a React Native mobile app)
  • CI/CD pipeline experience (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or Azure DevOps)
  • Experience in the financial services industry

Benefits
  • $113,000 to $142,000 base salary plus bonus
  • 401(k) with a matching contribution up to 13%.
  • United Healthcare PPO medical coverage for employees, paid by the company.
  • Delta Dental PPO, United Healthcare Vision, Short Term Disability, Long Term Disability, Life Insurance, and many more voluntary options.
  • Generous holidays and PTO.
  • Future career growth opportunity.

Come and join a team that is making a difference in their clients and employee's lives!
