Playwright Typescript information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Playwright Typescript developer?

To thrive as a Playwright Typescript Developer, you need strong proficiency in TypeScript/JavaScript, automated testing principles, and experience with web application architectures. Familiarity with Playwright's testing framework, CI/CD systems like Jenkins or GitHub Actions, and version control tools such as Git is typically required. Attention to detail, problem-solving, and effective communication are important soft skills for diagnosing test failures and collaborating with development teams. These skills ensure robust test automation, reliable software delivery, and efficient teamwork in fast-paced development environments.

What is a Playwright Typescript developer?

A Playwright Typescript developer is a software engineer who specializes in using Playwright, an open-source automation library, with the TypeScript programming language to write end-to-end tests for web applications. Playwright allows developers to simulate user interactions with web browsers, ensuring that web applications function correctly across different browsers and platforms. Using TypeScript provides benefits like static type checking and improved code maintainability, making it easier to catch errors early and write reliable tests. These developers are often responsible for creating, maintaining, and optimizing test scripts to automate quality assurance processes.

What are some common challenges faced when writing automated tests with Playwright and TypeScript, and how can they be addressed?

A frequent challenge in this role is managing flaky tests, which can result from dynamic web elements or asynchronous operations. To address this, Playwright offers robust auto-waiting and retry mechanisms, but it's important to write selectors and test logic that are resilient to UI changes. Another challenge is maintaining a scalable, organized test suite as the application grows. Using TypeScript’s strong typing and modular code structure, along with Playwright’s test runner, can help improve code quality and make tests easier to maintain. Collaborating closely with developers and QA engineers ensures tests align with evolving requirements.

AssetWatch serves global manufacturers by powering manufacturing uptime through the delivery of an unparalleled condition monitoring experience, with a passion to care about the assets our customers care for every day. We are a devoted and capable team that includes world-renowned engineers and distinguished business leaders united by a common goal – To build the future of predictive maintenance. As we enter the next phase of rapid growth, we are seeking people to help lead the journey.

With a bleeding edge tech stack, we have a unique opportunity to get you in at the ground floor to help our agile and efficient team continue building out our cloud application. If you love the startup life and the sense of urgency where the tools you build materially impact the organization's growth, let us talk.

What You'll Do:

  • Conduct thorough manual testing of new features, enhancements, and bug fixes across our web and mobile applications to ensure functionality, reliability, scalability, and usability.
  • Design and execute test plans, test cases, and exploratory testing sessions, and perform regression testing using a combination of manual and automated approaches.
  • Develop, maintain, and execute automated test suites using TypeScript and Playwright, translating manual test cases into reliable end-to-end automation and expanding coverage across the application.
  • Leverage AI-assisted and agentic coding tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude, Cursor) to accelerate test authoring, maintenance, and debugging—generating and refining Playwright tests, triaging failures, and improving coverage.
  • Build and refine agentic testing workflows, using prompts and AI agents to auto-generate test scaffolding, self-heal flaky selectors, and summarize test results, while applying sound engineering judgment to validate AI-generated output.
  • Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins) to provide fast, reliable feedback on every build.
  • Identify, document, and track software defects using Jira and Zephyr (or similar test case management, execution, and bug tracking tools).
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional development teams to understand requirements, provide feedback on potential issues, and ensure comprehensive, timely test coverage.
  • Participate in the continuous improvement of QA processes and methodologies, maintaining clear documentation for test scripts, cases, and automation, and providing regular reports on testing progress, risks, and quality metrics.

Who You Are:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of hands-on QA experience spanning both manual testing and test automation of web and mobile applications.
  • Strong experience building and maintaining automated end-to-end tests with TypeScript and Playwright, including solid knowledge of browser interactions, element locators, synchronization, and exception handling.
  • Experience developing or extending automation frameworks and integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins).
  • Practical experience using AI-assisted and agentic coding tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude, Cursor) to write, maintain, and debug code and tests, with the judgment to review and validate AI-generated output.
  • Experience with API testing (Postman, RestAssured, or similar) and backend database testing.
  • Strong understanding of SQL and experience with SQL backend testing.
  • Familiarity with React for web application testing and Flutter for mobile application testing.
  • Proficiency with Jira for issue tracking and project management, and test case management tools such as Zephyr.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, effective communication and collaboration, and a meticulous attention to detail.
