What is a playground installation job?

Playground installation jobs involve assembling and installing playground equipment such as swings, slides, climbing structures, and safety surfaces in parks, schools, or residential areas. Installers are responsible for following safety guidelines, reading blueprints, preparing the site, and ensuring all equipment is securely anchored. These jobs may also require knowledge of local regulations and the ability to use various tools and machinery. A playground installer often works as part of a team and may also provide maintenance or repair services for existing playgrounds.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a playground installation technician?

To thrive as a Playground Installation Technician, you need experience in construction, knowledge of safety standards, and often a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with power tools, site layout equipment, and certifications in playground safety (such as CPSI) are commonly required. Strong teamwork, attention to detail, and effective communication help ensure accurate assembly and client satisfaction. These skills and qualifications are crucial for building safe, durable playgrounds that comply with regulations and meet community needs.

What is the difference between Playground Installation vs Playground Maintenance?

AspectPlayground InstallationPlayground Maintenance
CredentialsCertifications in construction, safety standardsCertifications in safety, equipment repair
Work EnvironmentConstruction sites, outdoor locationsRecreational areas, outdoor settings
Employer & IndustryConstruction companies, parks departmentsRecreation facilities, parks, schools

Playground installation involves setting up new playground equipment, ensuring safety standards, and constructing the site. Maintenance focuses on inspecting, repairing, and preserving existing playground structures. Both roles require safety certifications and work outdoors, but installation is more construction-focused, while maintenance emphasizes ongoing safety and repairs.

What are some common challenges faced during playground installation projects, and how can they be addressed?

Playground installation projects often encounter challenges such as unpredictable weather, site preparation issues, and coordinating with other contractors or local authorities. Weather delays can impact project timelines, so flexibility and contingency planning are important. Site-related challenges, like uneven terrain or underground utilities, require thorough site assessments and effective communication with stakeholders. Successful installers work closely with project managers, landscapers, and inspectors to ensure safety standards are met and the installation proceeds smoothly.

We complete more than 150 major projects annually and work with leading manufacturers to provide playground equipment, safety surfacing, shade structures, site furnishings, outdoor fitness equipment, and more.

As a Certified Building Contractor (CBC1252224), Playmore provides customers with complete project supportโ€”from design and planning through installation, repair, replacement, and ongoing service.

Weโ€™ve built our reputation on quality work, dependable service, and a team that takes pride in doing the job right.

What Youโ€™ll Do

As a Playground Service & Installation Technician, youโ€™ll be responsible for completing smaller installation and service projects throughout Florida.

Your work will include a combination of new installations, equipment repairs, component replacements, troubleshooting, and general playground service work.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assemble and install playground equipment, site furnishings, and related recreational products
  • Repair existing playground and recreational equipment
  • Remove and replace damaged, worn, or outdated components
  • Complete small renovation, retrofit, and equipment replacement projects
  • Diagnose equipment and installation issues in the field and determine appropriate solutions
  • Read and follow installation manuals, plans, technical drawings, and manufacturer specifications
  • Safely and efficiently operate hand tools, power tools, and installation equipment
  • Inspect completed work to ensure equipment is properly installed, secure, and functioning as intended
  • Maintain Playmore's quality and safety standards on every project
  • Work independently on smaller assignments and alongside the installation team on larger projects
  • Communicate professionally with customers, contractors, property managers, and site contacts
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe job site
  • Travel throughout Florida approximately 50% of the time
What Weโ€™re Looking For

This position requires previous hands-on experience in construction, installation, repair, maintenance, carpentry, mechanical work, or a similar trade.

Playground-specific experience is a plus, but it is not required. We can teach the right person our products and installation standards. What we need is someone who already has a solid foundation of hands-on skills, knows how to work safely, and can be trusted to represent Playmore professionally in the field.

Required Qualifications
  • Previous relevant hands-on work experience
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
  • Experience using hand tools and power tools
  • Ability to read and follow plans, installation manuals, technical drawings, and manufacturer instructions
  • Ability to perform physical labor, including lifting and moving materials and working outdoors in Florida conditions
  • Ability to work independently and take responsibility for completing smaller projects correctly
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to job-site safety
  • Professional communication and customer-service skills
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record
  • Ability to successfully pass a background check
  • Willingness and ability to travel throughout Florida, including overnight travel when required

Experience with construction, carpentry, equipment installation, equipment repair, maintenance, or playground installation is strongly preferred.

Why Join Playmore?

This isn't just another installation position. Weโ€™re building the next stage of our Installation Department, and we want people who can grow with it.

Youโ€™ll have the opportunity to develop specialized experience across installation, repair, replacement, troubleshooting, and project execution. As the department grows, strong performers can take on larger projects, greater responsibility, and expanded leadership opportunities.

  • Company vehicle
  • Travel expenses covered
  • Health, Dental & Vision Insurance
  • 401(k) with company match
