Salary Range: $19-21/ hour
R&D Intern
The Bimbo Bakeries USA Research & Development internship is a remarkable experience to participate in fast-paced real-world projects designed to further develop strategic project management, analytical problem solving, and managerial leadership skills. Mentors will be designated to guide student collaborations and project work in each area. Students will be exposed to a variety of functional areas such as engineering, operations, and production while earning college credits in various locations nationwide.
Responsibilities include the consistent collaboration with the R&D team during the diagnostic, planning and implementation stages, while incorporating safety and quality/sanitation standards in a continuous improvement environment. A successful candidate will be a results-oriented team player, have solid interpersonal skills, and a strong commitment. He/she will be challenged with controlling production costs and downtime, monitoring production and finished products, and communicating with associates.
Key Job Responsibilities:
  • Assist several senior team members across all categories in design and execute experimentation using established procedures.
  • Assist the R&D Team in the lab on an as-needed basis (scaling ingredients, etc.)
  • Assist a senior team member in describing/demonstrating research results or experimental protocols to colleagues in a professional manner.
  • Carry out those programs so laid out by designated supervisors under authority of the senior person in product development, within the parameters of the assignment.
  • To assist in preparing finished product or ingredient specifications and process operating guides for product developments and ensure flow of documentation is communicated to those who have a need to know.
  • To write reports/memos from time to time on status of developments
  • Deal effectively, confidentially, and professionally with outside ingredient supplier to meet R&D objectives (under the guidance of their supervisor).
  • Conduct analytical testing (moisture, water activity, pH)
  • To maintain a daily log outlining project status and activities in such detail that others may continue the test.

Education/Experience:
  • Ideal candidates should maintain a 2.75 cumulative GPA of 2.75
  • Pursuing a bachelor's degree in Food Science, Business, Research & Development, or related scientific field
  • Co-Op or intern experience in R&D a plus
