METAL CLEANER, IMMERSION

Location: Huntsville, AL

(NASA Marshall Space Flight Center – Redstone Arsenal)
JOB STATUS: Full-Time

Clearance: Public Trust

Contract: METTS III

Must be US Citizen

Astrion is seeking a highly skilled METAL CLEANER, IMMERSION to support the Marshall Engineering Technicians and Trades Support (METTS) III contract at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) located on Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform metal cleaning, plating, coating, and surface treatment processes using immersion, chemical, and electrolytic methods.
  • Operate and monitor plating equipment to ensure proper coating thickness and surface finish.
  • Adjust solution levels, monitor solution temperatures, and make routine equipment settings and process adjustments.
  • Prepare metal parts for processing using standard cleaning, degreasing, acid pickling, phosphating, oxide coating, anodizing, and related surface treatment methods.
  • Plate and treat metal components using finishes such as cadmium, tin, copper, nickel, and silver.
  • Load and position parts on racks, fixtures, and holding devices for plating, coating, or anodizing operations.
  • Inspect completed parts to verify conformance with quality and workmanship standards.
  • Use precision measuring tools, including micrometers, calipers, and gauges, to verify plating thickness and dimensional requirements.
  • Drain, clean, and refill processing tanks in accordance with established procedures.
  • Operate drying equipment and inspect cleaned parts prior to and after processing.
  • Read and follow technical orders, manufacturer documentation, work instructions, and established operating procedures.
  • Identify and report equipment malfunctions, poor plating results, or solution deficiencies to supervision.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment while handling chemicals and processing equipment.
  • Support NASA operational objectives and mission requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Experience:

Basic understanding of typical surface treatment solutions is required.
Three (3) years experience in a related field is desired.

Work Environment

• Machine Shop, Laboratory, test environments, test stands, possible confined spaces.
• Loud/Noisy space

Physical Requirements
• Must be able to bend, stoop or lift occasionally with or without reasonable accommodation.
• All positions supporting the METTS III contract are contingent upon successful completion of NASA medical screenings at the beginning of employment and annually thereafter. The need for these screenings is determined based on the outcomes of the Safety, Health, and Environmental Job
