Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a 13-week night shift assignment requiring an active AL or compact RN license and at least 1 year of experience.

Details
  • Acute care Med/Surg unit within a Level 3 trauma facility
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of approximately 1:5-6
  • Night shift schedule (7p-7a) with weekends and holidays as needed
  • Guaranteed 36 hours per week over 12-hour shifts
  • Uses Cerner EMR charting system
  • Common diagnoses include CKD, ESRD, CVA, DM, COPD, sepsis, AMS, UTI, AKI, COVID, anemia, and weakness
  • Respiratory support equipment includes high flow, CPAP, and BiPAP (no ventilators)
  • RNs required to read their own telemetry strips
  • Weekend requirement of 4 shifts per 4-week period
  • Holiday coverage required per unit rotation, including a major winter holiday and a summer holiday
  • Floating required within the medical-surgical division
  • No call or standby requirement for contract staff
  • Charge nurse support available and flows into staffing as census requires
  • Nurse aide support available with a target ratio of 1:12
Requirements
  • Active RN license (AL or Compact) required
  • BLS certification required
  • NIHSS certification required for select units
  • Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
  • Teamwork and initiative valued for certain units
  • Ability to accurately read telemetry strips required
Additional Information
  • Provide direct patient care to a medical-surgical population with a variety of acute diagnoses
  • Some units may require titration of set-rate drips such as Amiodarone, Dobutamine, and Cardizem under pharmacist direction
  • Unit-specific orientation ranges from two shifts to one week of PCPO plus two 12-hour shifts
  • Scrubs must be Ceil Blue and are not provided
  • Must reside within 100 miles of the facility
  • Modified self-scheduling available on some units while others use block scheduling
  • First-time travelers may be considered for this position
