Job description

Manufacturing Supervisor

Location: Urbandale, IA


Position Summary

We are seeking a hands-on Manufacturing Supervisor to lead employees in a specialized manufacturing environment. The company produces ground-protection products.

This position will oversee Operators, Assemblers, Utility employees, and Material Handlers while ensuring work is completed safely, accurately, and on schedule.


Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support daily production activities.
  • Assign work and communicate daily safety, quality, and production goals.
  • Ensure employees follow safety procedures and use required PPE.
  • Monitor quality throughout fabrication, molding, finishing, and assembly.
  • Ensure employees follow work instructions and quality procedures.
  • Address production delays, equipment issues, material shortages, and quality concerns.
  • Manage staffing, scheduling, attendance, and overtime.
  • Train, coach, and cross-train employees.
  • Monitor productivity, downtime, scrap, rework, and material waste.
  • Lead daily production meetings and provide clear shift handoffs.
  • Maintain accurate production, quality, downtime, and labor records.
  • Work closely with Quality, Maintenance, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Logistics.
  • Support 5S, Lean manufacturing, and continuous-improvement activities.
  • Promote teamwork, accountability, and employee engagement.


Qualifications

  • Previous manufacturing or production experience required.
  • Previous supervisory or team-lead experience preferred.
  • Experience with composites, fiberglass, plastics, fabrication, industrial assembly, or similar manufacturing is a plus.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Understanding of workplace safety and quality-control practices.
  • Ability to read and follow production instructions.
  • Comfortable working in a hands-on, fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Basic computer and production-reporting skills.
  • Lean manufacturing, 5S, or continuous-improvement experience is helpful.
  • Ability to work overtime when needed.
