Product Engineer – Mechanical / Design Engineering

Location: Burlington, MA

Duration: Through the end of the year, with possible extension or conversion to hire

Pay Rate: $32.00/hour


Position Summary

  • We are seeking a Product Engineer to support the development of next-generation consumer products and appliances. This role will contribute to cross-functional product development activities, with a strong focus on product craftsmanship, mechanical design, consumer experience, testing, and product attribute development.
  • The ideal candidate will be able to connect consumer expectations and product performance with detailed engineering design. This position offers an opportunity to work across engineering, design, manufacturing, consumer insights, and analytics teams throughout the product development lifecycle.


Key Responsibilities

  • Support product attribute-focused projects through the product development process.
  • Research and analyze existing consumer and product data to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Partner with internal and external teams to support consumer research and product evaluations.
  • Develop prototypes for product evaluation, testing, and design trade-off analysis.
  • Support development of product attribute prototypes, specifications, requirements, and performance targets.
  • Develop new testing methods to verify product requirements.
  • Analyze testing data and translate findings into actionable product insights.
  • Conduct craftsmanship and product reviews of internal and competitive products.
  • Connect consumer feedback and perception to product design, craftsmanship, usability, and performance.
  • Create and modify 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, specifications, and tolerance analyses.
  • Collaborate with engineering, design, manufacturing, business, and technical subject matter experts.
  • Support new product development and continuous product improvement initiatives.
  • Apply engineering analysis and structured problem-solving techniques to identify and resolve product issues.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Design Engineering, Plastics Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 3+ years of relevant professional engineering experience.
  • Experience with user-centered product development or design practices.
  • Experience connecting consumer perception, product attributes, usability, performance, or craftsmanship to engineering design.
  • Strong 3D CAD modeling experience, preferably SolidWorks.
  • Experience with component and assembly design and engineering analysis.
  • Ability to create and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and collaboration skills.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a new product development (NPD) environment.
  • Experience collaborating across consumer insights, marketing, engineering, design, manufacturing, and analytics teams.
  • Knowledge of plastic part design and injection molding.
  • Understanding of Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles.
  • Experience with Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) or structured problem-solving methodologies.
  • Experience with Root Cause Analysis, 8D, A3, or Design of Experiments (DOE).
  • Experience with Teamcenter, JMP, MATLAB, or LabVIEW.
  • Experience developing prototypes, testing methods, product requirements, or validation processes.
