Job description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist in advancing gene-editing through plant tissue culture and transformation

Conduct plant tissue culture work under the supervision of the Gene-editing Scientist.  Support and monitor tissue culture growth chambers, plantlet and seedling development, transplanting, seed/ tissue harvest, grinding tissue samples, tissue culture media prep and other greenhouse activities.  Work independently using aseptic technique in a laminar flow hood. Assist with tissue transformation.

Assist with General Lab Maintenance and record keeping

General laboratory maintenance including cleaning and preparing lab equipment and supplies.

Operate in a culture of safety, promoting and following all safety guidelines. Maintain operational excellence through quality management and good housekeeping.  Basic record keeping including tracking project progress.

QUALIFICATIONS

Plant Tissue Culture experience

Experience working in a molecular biology or tissue culture laboratory.

Hands-on experience with plant tissue culture techniques in plants.

Aseptic Lab Technique Experience

Experience with aseptic laboratory techniques and/or working within Laminar flow hoods.  Plant specific experience not required.

EDUCATION 

High school diploma/ GED

Work, Communication, and Interpersonal skills

Strong organizational and record keeping skills.

Effective verbal and written communication skills Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Strong computer skills (Microsoft Excel, Access).

Very organized with a strong attention to detail.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.  Laboratory Best Practices skills.
