Nature & Purpose of Position
Title: Carbon Sequestration Assessment in Native and Managed Plant Systems
This research project focuses on quantifying carbon sequestration potential across a variety of plant species located on the SHSU campus and surrounding research sites. The student assistant will participate in field data collection to measure plant biomass, soil characteristics, and environmental variables. In addition, the assistant will conduct laboratory analyses to evaluate soil carbon content, organic matter composition, and related indicators of carbon storage. The position offers hands-on experience in ecological fieldwork, environmental sampling, and laboratory testing techniques used to assess carbon sequestration in natural and managed ecosystems.
Other Requirements for the Position
1. Undergraduate student majoring in Environmental Science, Biology, Agricultural Sciences, or related STEM fields
2. Willingness to conduct outdoor fieldwork, including plant measurements and soil sampling
3. Previous experience with laboratory procedures, environmental sampling, or analytical equipment is preferred
