Job description

Wage Information Salary Range: $11.19-$18.21 The City of Canton Engineering Department is seeking an individual for the position of Civil Engineering Intern. Interested in this position. Applicants must submit a valid photo ID along with their application. To be eligible for the position under this examination, all applicants must be U.S. citizens or possess a valid permanent resident card

Applicants must be at least 16 years of age. Job Description An employee in this position performs work to support the Engineering Department and its staff. The position may be used as part of an internship program with a college, university, or high school.

Examples of Work: Receives training and performs duties in support of the Engineering Department. Specific tasks and responsibilities will be determined by the intern's supervisor and the needs of the department. The intern will be asked to perform, participate in, and observe activities relevant to the department.

Activities vary by division but may include assisting with projects, research, preparation of reports, inter-office communication, attending meetings and events, and general office tasks. Performs related work as required. Assists in the office or in the field with various projects related to traffic or civil engineering Becomes familiar with the City street system Utilizes relevant engineering/drafting tools Reviews maps and plans Maintains records in an organized manner and in accordance with department rules and policies Researches, studies, and files records as needed Coordinates and communicates with management staff daily regarding the status of projects and assignments Minimum Qualifications: At least 16 years of age Must be one of the following: Current enrollment in high school (or recent graduate) with an interest in civil engineering OR Planned or current enrollment in college/university in civil engineering, traffic engineering, computer science, or related field.

Strong communication skills both written and orally. Strong listening skills and ability to follow instructions. Competent with use of a computer and basic comprehension of Office Suite products.

Application Process: Driver's license or government-issued ID College transcripts if enrolled (may be unofficial) Resume (preferred) The Engineering Department may request the intern have certain qualifications, so be sure to submit the proper documents to determine eligibility. The Civil Service Department will refer qualified applicants to the Engineering Department for consideration. You will receive an email notice informing you whether your application was referred.

It will be at the discretion of the Engineering Department to contact applicants for interviews. You will be notified if not selected for employment. Participation Requirements: Students who are selected for the program are required to meet the below minimum requirements to remain an intern.

If intern(s) fail to adhere to these standards, they may be dismissed from the program: Adherence to all City and department policies regarding attendance, work hours, computer usage rules, attire, conduct, and behavior. Timely completion of all assigned tasks and responsibilities. Remain professional and respectful when working with fellow employees, supervisors, and members of the public.
