Zachry Engineering Corporation is currently accepting applications for a Pipe Stress Engineer to support our growing Design Center in Charlotte, NC. This role offers the opportunity to work on complex piping systems across power generation, petrochemical, and industrial projects, collaborating with multidiscipline engineering teams and experienced subject matter experts. 

What We're Looking For 

Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Chemical, or Petroleum Engineering from an accredited engineering program 

  • Minimum 10 years of engineering experience supporting power, petrochemical, and/or industrial projects 

  • Minimum 5-10 years of hands-on pipe stress analysis experience 

  • Proficiency with CAESAR II and/or AutoPIPE 

  • Strong working knowledge of ASME B31.1, ASME B31.3, and applicable API codes and standards 

  • Experience with piping materials, pipe specifications, and valve specifications 

  • Solid understanding of pipe support design and flexibility analysis 

  • Proficiency with engineering and design tools, including CAESAR II, Navisworks, CADD applications, and Microsoft Office 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license 

  • Power generation or power plant design experience

What You'll Do 

As a Pipe Stress Engineer, you will be responsible for the analysis, design, and documentation of piping systems to ensure safe, code-compliant, and constructible solutions. You will apply sound engineering judgment while supporting projects from concept through detailed design. 

You will: 

  • Perform pipe stress and flexibility analyses in accordance with applicable codes and standards, including ASME B31.1 and ASME B31.3 

  • Utilize industry-standard software such as CAESAR II and/or AutoPIPE to evaluate stresses, displacements, support loads, and equipment nozzle loads 

  • Analyze and interpret results to ensure compliance with code limits, equipment constraints, and project specifications 

  • Design and select pipe supports, including rigid supports, spring hangers, and expansion joints 

  • Prepare pipe stress calculations, analysis reports, and technical data sheets 

  • Review and check piping isometrics and pipe support designs for accuracy, constructability, and compliance 

  • Participate in design reviews, interdisciplinary coordination meetings, and client discussions 

  • Gather, analyze, and document data related to existing equipment and systems, including field and as-built conditions 

  • Develop and evaluate alternate design options to assess feasibility, operability, and the need for modification 

  • Ensure project documentation is completed in accordance with engineering quality management procedures 

  • Support project objectives by delivering quality work on schedule and within budget
